New U7180 not backing-up original tune

Post by tgsracing »

Part#: U7180
Version: 9R10
2002 Chevrolet 2500HD 6.6 Duramax

I just bought the predator to load onto my truck and it does not make it through the original backup process, it states "error unlock -12". I tried taking out most of the fuses that could be causing an interference, i do have an aftermarket deck and trailer brakes and I unhooked those. I bought the truck used so I am not sure if something is already loaded onto the ECU. Are there other things I can try or should I take it to the dealer to get a re-flash?

Thanks
Dan

If there is an aftermarket harness plugged into the factory harness for the stereo, remove that and try again.

Are there other fuses I should look into pulling that can help? It just has a factory alarm on it, can this cause any interference?

Will it hurt anything to have a battery charger hooked up while I try and go through the process?

I tried again, took the radio out, unplugged the brake controller, pulled many fuses, and hooked a battery charger up and it still did not back-up the original tune. I can't get in the Chevy dealer till Monday, so i will get a re-flash and try again then. I have no idea what other aftermarket item could be hooked up to the factory harness, I have owned the truck for 8 years and never noticed anything else.

it is possible that it is a non stock flash on the PCM already, if it works after a dealer flash, then that was the issue ;)

I was able to get into the dealership yesterday and they were not able to re-flash the ECU, said they never saw this before. The tech said he is going to talk to the shop foreman Monday and see if he knows anything or has seen this before. I am pondering calling Jegs to see if I can send the predator back. If I have to get a new ECU it is probably not worth the cost.

Does anyone know if there are other ways to unlock the ECU that maybe the dealership cant do?

Its not the ECU, it is the truck.
Something is keeping you from being able to get to the PCM in the harness.
I would bet my paychech that if you sent me that PCM, I could hook it up on the bench, plug your Predator in, and flash it no problem.

Obviously, removing the 'truck' from the equation is not that simple ;)

tgsracing ,
Did you get your predator to go through the backup process? I received my new predator yesterday and I'm having the same problem. (unit 1 error not saved -12)
