Intune can't install driver to make auto-update work

Post by scottatah »

Hey Folks,

I'm sure i'm doing something silly or wrong, but it's been a long day. I need to update my intune to 1r01f but the auto-update isn't functioning. When i connect the device, it has troubles installing the driver. Device manager shows an exclamation mark on the device under dvd/cd rom's and under other devices.

The cdrom portion is just telling me windows cannot verify the digital signature for the driver. No big deal.

The other device (the more important one I suspect) says that it can't find a driver for the device.

Everything I've read says the driver is contained on the intune itself but apparently it's not finding it. I tried updating the driver and poitning to the device, but there's not much there other than the 2 folders and xml.

Any thoughts? I've already tried disconnecting and reconnecting and rebooting with no luck. Device turns on, so I suspect the USB connection/cable is fine, likewise other devices function fine on all 3 usb ports so they're definitely fine.

Previous to reimaging my notebook (win7x64 before and after) I did an update....so I can't figure out what the issue is now.

Thanks,
Scott

Plug the inTune into a USB port and then once it is started, go to your start button and find your way to Computer/My Computer, click/open. Look at the list of drives, you will have the usual and and a INTUNE drive and a CD DRIVE Diablosport. Click/open the CD Drive and there should be files in there... two of which have icons of the inTune, mouse over each of the two and find the one that is the .exe file. RIGHT CLICK on that one and the popup will appear next to it... SELECT/CLICK "RUN as ADMINISTRATOR" then follow any prompts to allow the inTune program to function/run with administrator rights.

The cdrom is listed, but not a disk drive. CDROM only contains 2 folders and an XML, no executables.

Try this:

If your computer does not see/find your inTune when you connect to the USB port.... follow this:
(inTune NOT connected)
Go to START>RUN, then type, services.msc in the box and hit enter. When the new window opens scroll down the list and find,
shellhardware detection
double click on it and another window will open
in this window set the, (start - type) to automatic and then Enable.
Click OK and close the previous windows.
Now reconnect your inTune and enjoy.

That is set to automatic and the the intune is detected by the PC. Shows up in the device manager, just doesn't install the drivers properly. Autorun's the CDROM, giving me the option to view the files or what not, but there's no executable on it.

Just to make sure it's not my PC I'm going to swing by work and plug it in there, see if it works any differently.

Well the moderately positive news is that it seems it's just my computer that is hte problem. Brought it to work, and I get both drives. Everything appeared to go well. It went so far as to say it had updated and it would be reboot, but over the course of about +20 minutes it never rebooted. I checked the firmware and it's still 1r01d (not the f that it's supposed to be)

It takes some time to load 1r01f, it may need to reboot or try redownloading it.
Also, now that it updated, see if you get both drives on your PC.

I ended up going back to the work computer and it worked that time. We were doing server maintenance and i know parts of the network were down, so there's potential that could have been prat of the prob, but it's updated to F. I copied the driver and emailed it to myself, might try running it again on my PC and potentially pointing it to that driver, see if that makes any diff or not.

Thanks for the help people, hopefully update f allows me to restore my stock tune...in case i ever need to.
