2007 Charger SRT8 - "failed to read pcm original backup

Post by xcv123 »

Hi,

When I connect the inTune to my car (07 Charger SRT8), I'm able to go the Diable Tunes and select 91 Octane Tune. But when it's creating a backup, I get a popup that says "Wait...." then the error "FAILED TO READ PCM ORIGINAL BACKUP" and I'm brought back to the main screen.

Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks

You have the key in the ON position?

Yeah. The key is in the On position.

I'm able to get to the "Write Menu" and see the list of Diable Tunes available for my car. So I selected the "91 Octane Tune" but while its creating the backup of the stock tune, I get the "failed to read pcm original backup" error.

I tried it again today and I'm still having the same issue. One thing I noticed is that when I select the diablo tune and it starts to try and backup my stock tune...the red Battery light and ETC light (lightning bolt symbol) turn on in the dash. But then, when the "wait..." pops up on the intune, the battery and ETC lights turn off and then I get the error message. I'm not sure if its supposed to do that or what that means but it was just something that I noticed today and wondered if it would help in identifying the source of my problem.

sounds like a low battery voltage issue maybe?

Thanks for the quick reply. Anyway I can test to make sure this is the issue? Or any method of preventing the battery voltage from dropping too low while its trying to backup the stock tune?

Oh ok. I dont have a battery charger though. But my car starts just fine and all internal electronics are working fine too with the key in the ON or ACC positions.

If I was to drive the car for a bit and have the alternator charge the battery...do you think that would help?

You have the steering wheel radio controls, right? Use the Easter egg and pull up the battery voltage. I don't recall exactly which two buttons you need to hold. Its been 4 years since I had an LX. I think its the music note and something else.

I have the same problem, put in a new battery and still no go. I think its one of the "canned responses". Seems like there are a few of them...

hmmm... not sure then... did you do a search on the forums to find if anyone else had a similar issue and if there was a fix/reason posted??

Mike:
I used the "easter egg" and my voltage reading was 12.5V

Monte:
I've searched the forum and I believe there was someone else with a similar type of issue with a different car, but there was no fix or anything posted.

So is my voltage too low?

Just to add...the car was off when I checked the voltage and I have not driven it since last night. In case that helps.

did you start it up at all today before trying anything?

start it up and let it run/idle for about 5 minutes, then shut it off... then try to tune it again...

I know with my car, after a certain amount of time the ecm/tcm goes into like a "sleep" mode... and if I haven't done anything in an hour or two, I will get errors when I try to flash my car... so I have to start it up and let it run for a few minutes, shut it off... then turn my key on and I can flash it just fine....
