Hard Shift

Post by Cmyoung »

I just installed the 87 tune from the intune device in a 2010 5.3l GMC Sierra. Under light to moderate acceleration it shifts ok. Under moderate to WOT it shifts so hard it spins the tires going into 2nd and pretty hard into third. Is this normal? Can I adjust this?

Yes I am afraid it will damage something. Is it adjustable?

Mike, my 2011 Tahoe 5.3 does the same thing. Is it related to torque management? Would you be able to fix my tune if I posted it up as well?

Suprised to hear you guys complaining about this....I have been running the same tune and that firm shift is perfect, much better than the stock settings with the soft, slip shift.

Firmer/quicker shifts are better, less slipping and less heat for the transmission. The stock setting allow to much slipping and heat IMO. With the "canned tunes" they are set this way to reduce the time it takes for the truck to shift. Mine feels more responsive and very smooth. Going WOT the shifts are nice and firm.....This shouldn't really be an issue UNLESS it's banging into gear.

The torque management is a great feature to keep most truck buyers from enjoying the HP they bought. It also saves the tranny and drivetrain to make it to 100K. Having over thought and tested this to death I still prefer to leave the TM off. It can be a pain on a rainy day, but you learn to feather the throttle like we all have done. It is nice to have the firmer shift. I did the vette servo on the 4L60E and it cleaned up the 1-2 , 2-3 shift quite a bit. TCM will only be icing on the cake. I'm sure you all have heard it a bunch but find a dealer with the CMR software, holy hell does it make a difference. Just read all the LEW posts...

And your problem is?

I'm really not sure why you feel chirping the tires going into 2nd at WOT is a bad thing! You may just need some "Foot Management" training.
You paid for performance didn't you?

Back in 75 when my factory 68 Toronado would chirp the tires going into 2nd at 50mph on WOT I thought it was the best car in the world.

As I see it you have 2 choices;
1. ENJOY
2. Do a restore, sell your inTune and baby your car.
