Can you use the ZL1 TCM info on the CTS-V?

Post by Mike_Levy »

I'm reading about the ZL1 and supposedly the automatic ZL1 prefills the fluid lines when in manual mode so that the shifts are virtually instantaneous. I want that on my V. The transmissions are identical 6L90E's, so its gotta be something in the TCM that does it.

Can we try loading a ZL1 TCM program on my TCM and see if it works? Or if you can't do it on my TCM, can you try it on the bosses? The stock one has a lag between the paddle and the shift, and now that I put on real paddles, instead of the stupid buttons, I've been using them a lot more, and need that gone.

Nice paddles.

If I recall correctly, Mike W has a 2012 V tcm cal inhis 11 V TCM...not sure if you can do the ZL1 or not.

I've been trying to find out, but no luck. Even went so far as to contact GM, telling them that the V is the more expensive car and deserves to have the latest electronics and add-ons included in their computer updates. We also get screwed over with the launch control and PTM.

Johan confirms the 12 V TCM cal is set up the same way as the 12 ZL1 cal, with the same new params added.

He said you can do it, but you aint going to find a dealer that will be able to figure it out.

he's going to try it on the bosses V here and see whats up, but it will require a more thorough tool than a Trinity...

If it works can I send you my TCM? If the dealer won't be able to figure it out, that seems to be the only way to get it done. :(

Where is the TCM anyway?

Road trip to WPB?

Does this have to be done with a GM tool (Tech 2)? I have access to some of the new SnapOn tools, but I have no idea if they can write to the computers

Yeah, I dont think its even a tech2 thing, it involves some 'specialty tools' :)

I'll be in Orlando in August, but I'm not sure if I'm bringing the V or the Maxima. The V got 16.3mpg on a trip to the Poconos last weekend, so a 2500 mile round trip will get expensive. Last year going to Florida the Maxima got 28, so its way cheaper.

Any chance AJ has the "specialty tools"?
