2009 chevy 1500 6.2 liter lost my factory backup!

Post by chg_z71 »

I was in the process of a custom tune with lew and i have the first custom tune installed in the truck now. i went and did some more log data to send to lew and when i pugged my trinity in my laptop i went to send my log to the dataviewer and it would not go through. i then plugged the trinity back into the truck and all my tunes had dissappared including my factory backup. it shows the trinity is not married to a vehicle. i have my factory backup file on the computer i just cant figure out how to straighten all this out i dont really know how this happened. as of now i still have my fist custom tune from lew installed on the truck and when i try to marry the trinity to the vehicle it will not becouse it says there is a diablo tune installed and cannot pull a factory backup out.

nope... it would have to be loaded as a custom tune... and then installing that - the process is different than doing an actual "restore" of the original backup....

so that will do you no good....

call tech support tomorrow...

let the tool read the current tune, and send us that, along with a copy of the stock tune you have saved.

Thanks

it will not let me read my new backup. it says there is a trinity tune installed so it wont take that as my factory backup file. the tune that is in the truck is my first custom tune from lew that i was working with him on now im stuck!!!!

as im looking through the forums i see alot of people wanting to save copys of there factory backup files to their pcs and i understand why becouse in case the tool for some unknown reason looses the backup software they are thinking that they can just goto their laptop and reinstall the factory software to the tool but from talking with you guys im starting to perty much assume that if the tool looses the backup files there is no getting them back on the trinity without having your vehicle reflashed at a dealership and then start over in hopes that it doesnt happen again. am i thinking correct on this? becouse the average customer probably thinks like i did that when you copy your original software to the pc that no matter what happens you can allways get it back in the tool.

Thanks
it won't read the current tune from the vehicle because he already has a custom tune installed in it, so his trinity sees that there is already a tune installed and it won't let him do anything...

correct... there is no way to get your original backup file from your pc, put back into the trinity as the "original backup"... it would end up being loaded as a custom tune....

the only way the trinity gets the tune saved as the "original backup" in itself, is to read/save it directly from the ecm...

So just to put my updated situation up for anyone who slightly cares. I finally broke down and took my truck to the delership to have my engine controller reflashed to get the custom diablew tune out. afterwards i was alittle nervous to hook the trinity back up to truck but curiosity got the better of me and it saved the factory backup fine and lets met install any of the programmed tunes for my truck with no problem.but it pops up a message as soon as i enter the performance page saying there is a problem with the custom tune i have on the trinity and it will not be used. so i guess i just wanna say thanks for charging me extra lew for buying the trinity from you along with a custom tune and then the tune not working right and costing me another hundread bucks to get it out of my truck.only thing this paperweight is good for is checking codes and setting tire size! thanks guys one more sucker to the list!

wow...

have you even contacted Lew about this, or you just decided to say screw it, I'll post up and tell people I got screwed?
All you need to do is send Lew a copy of your new backup file and he can remake the tune.
If you let the dealer flash the car, chances are they changed the calibrations in your truck, so there is no reason to assume the old tune would still work.

Lew offers pretty solid support, not sure why you didnt just ask him before you assumed you had become a sucker.

Jeez.
