Stolen Intune
Stolen Intune
I know you probably heard about this many times already...
Stopped at a gas station tonight to flash my truck over to the high octane tune. I reached into my center console grabbed the cable and the intune was missing, someone stole it from my trucks center console.
Is there a way to track it if it gets plugged into a pc?
Obviously someone had no clue what they were taking as they left the OBD cable in the truck. If you could contact me if there is a way to track it please email me (you have it on file)
If I'm SOL, how do I get a new unit to work with my truck as it is already married to another unit? thanks...

Next time try something like this...
http://www.instamapper.com/android
I haven't used it on an Android/inTune system yet but I use it on my Blackberry when required and it works great. Something similar might work better for you too, once an inTune comes for me I will gladly try it out.

RE: Stolen Intune
That won't work. First, theres no compatible OS on the inTune. Second, I don't think the inTune has GPS.

Awfully quick to rule it out aren't you.... open source software is great and it can be modded for many platforms, nothing has to be compatible with anything these days. You are probably correct on the GPS within the device but there is always the possibility of USB GPS or syncing with a phone somehow as well (only problem with the phone or USB would be very easy to disable). I'd love to port the inTune to open up some more features, I want to integrate Escort Live into it as well and hate being limited by one program per device and having to carry 10 handheld things around with you.

What if someone calls to get it to work or plugging it into a pc and it connects for an update?mikel wrote:No, we dont have any way to know where it is to be honest...

Now your on to something.... if Diablosport had a DB full of stolen devices and once they were plugged into the server they could be disabled w/ password or something (aka send into Diablosport), that would be great support from Diablosport for their customers and probably wouldn't even be that hard to integrate.BRR wrote:What if someone calls to get it to work or plugging it into a pc and it connects for an update?mikel wrote:No, we dont have any way to know where it is to be honest...
Re: RE: Stolen Intune
Exactly, considering you have to register the unit to begin with, and it connects to the DS servers for updates. There could be a red flag on reported serial numbers and once the unit is plugged into the update server it could be locked down-backtraced Via IP address ..etc.etc...AllGoNShow wrote:Now your on to something.... if Diablosport had a DB full of stolen devices and once they were plugged into the server they could be disabled w/ password or something (aka send into Diablosport), that would be great support from Diablosport for their customers and probably wouldn't even be that hard to integrate.BRR wrote:What if someone calls to get it to work or plugging it into a pc and it connects for an update?mikel wrote:No, we dont have any way to know where it is to be honest...
I know one thing for sure, I'm currently using a competitors programmer due to price and availability and very shortly I'm going to be selling the competitors programmer to save up for another DS unit.
RE: Re: RE: Stolen Intune
You can always locate that persons IP. The inTune device is suppose to hit Diablos sites for an update. If they are tracking inbound IP's to Device ID's they can give you that IP and you can GeoLocate that IP.

IP's are too hard to track and trace to a specific house/person, you are better off having that AutoUpdate turn into an AutoDisable if marked stolen, put some fake screen on the device saying programming error send to DiabloSport for repair then have it returned to the owner who can prove his Serial #'s match his receipt.

Most likely they thought it was a phone. They will trash it when they can't make a call.
