how to connect to pc

Just bought a 2009 challenger, has a u7135 predator with it.
How do I get this thing going? It has no external power supply and I would like to connect it to my PC. It does have a USB cable and I do have prolific driver.
Have not connected it to the car, I need to get organized here before I do that.
No display when I connect it to the PC. Please advise

you can buy a 12vdc 1 amp power supply from a local radio shack store.

Will not power up via the usb to serial cable.
