what if i was to mix 50-50 pump 91 and 110 vp racing fuel..... what do ya think?
i have access to 110 so if i can i would love to use it if i can tune in some more power!
mixing fuel
RE: mixing fuel
You probably understand that high octane fuel does not produce power in itself but allows for more spark advance which does increase power - to a point. Too much octane actually diminishes the power as it really can be too much of a good thing. To offset this, a larger volume of fuel and air can be applied to extreme compression engines. If you have near factory compression, you will normally not benefit by using higher than recommended octane fuel. However, if the diablosport techs say differently, I will retract and delete.

RE: mixing fuel
make sure it's UN-leaded... otherwise you'll kill your CAT and O2 sensors...
I've run Sunoco GT 100 (aka CAM2) 100 octane unleaded in my Monte a few times... mix it with Mobil 93 octane to get a final octane rating of about 95/96 octane, and the car seems to really like it... pulls harder, more giddy-up... don't do it that often though, as that shit is $7.70 a gallon here...

RE: mixing fuel
Lew, I respect your status here but can't help but correct. If you experienced more power from higher octane fuel then you were/are experiencing spark retardation with the lower octane fuel. Octane does not add power unless your engine is not running correctly with the current octane level. If you want proof, do an internet search on power + octane. Now if you advanced your timing after filling up with the higher octane fuel, that is a different story. As ironic as it may seem, the lowest octane fuel you can safely use will provide the best power.
From wikipedia:
"It might seem odd that fuels with higher octane ratings explode less easily, yet are popularly thought of as more powerful. The misunderstanding is caused by confusing the ability of the fuel to resist compression detonation as opposed to the ability of the fuel to burn (combustion).
A simple explanation is that carbon-carbon bonds contain more energy than carbon-hydrogen bonds. Hence a fuel with a greater number of carbon bonds will carry more energy regardless of the octane rating.

RE: mixing fuel
no problem 01Z... yeah, I have/know that same info... and it was a combination of a couple things..
yes, I did have some KR, and that fuel eliminated it...
and the rest I'm sure was just a psychological SOTP feeling/improvement - I thought it should have more power, therefore it did!
