They're working on it, but they may as well give up. Its not looking like its gonna happen without Mopar unlocking them. And if people keep buying them while they're locked, why would they unlock them? Buy a ZL1 or GT500 and show Mopar that you won't take their shit.

People are buying them because they are sharp looking cars. The sharpest IMO.
And sadly, most people who buy them know nothing about Chrysler's PCMs and only find out about them after the purchase. Hindsight is 20/20.

There are many reasons why people still buy the Challenger over the competition that can be tuned. I'm sure to most, tuning may not be as important as having nice comfy seats with headroom, a useable rear seat, a smooth ride, and a trunk that can fit luggage all while riding in style with a relatively efficient and powerful V8. A tuner can't get rid of that wide radio console on the mustang that bangs my right knee or that low sloping roof on the Camaro that my head scrapes while looking through a window that is so tiny. But then again, some don't like Challengers because they are too big, not fast enough, or have a bland interior. It's all personal preference.

Without tuning you can't mod the car any substantial amount. Thats a deal killer for a lot of people. Sure was for me. Killed any chance of getting a Mopar. As much of a deal killer as the GT500s lack of automatic transmission, and the Camaros tight insides and hideous dash.

Its all good though. Mopar pushing me away pushed me right back where I came from at GM. Got all the Challengers positives (plus more), all the Camaro and GT500s performance (plus more) and tunability, in a 4 door package. Can't complain when you get the best of both worlds.

Mike, it might be a deal breaker for people on this forum by not being able to mod their project car aggressively but in the big sales picture I gurantee the super tuning enthusiasts are a narrow market . Some may go to Ford or GM for aggressive tuning because they want more power on the track, but a lot will be happy with an intake and exhaust without a custom tune or more aggressive mods. Most people I know never even heard of a Diablosport tuner...

It was obvously a big enough market for Chrysler/Fiat to notice and lock the PCMs.

I agree.
But, even though the percentage of people who mod their cars is small compared to the people who don't, Chrysler may have had the most amout of vehicles that people could've done modifications to. Look at the amount of people that used to mod Jeep Wranglers alone. Then add in Rams, Challengers, Chargers, Neons, Calibers, 300's, Grand Cherokees, etc. It probably put a small dent in Sergio's pocket. And any loss of $ to him probably wasn't appreciated.
I'm not at all happy that they locked the PCM's and I do think it will hurt them in the long run if they don't do something for the modders. That's only my opinion though. And at what point do they try to satiisfy us while keeping warranty costs down???? Only time will tell I guess.
SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE.
