When I took the stock thermostat out, I found the same damaged seal as others have found.
You should change the thermostat for that, if for no other reason.
It costs under $10 and takes about 10 minutes.
Reconsider.

I am running a stock thermostat on my SRT8 running 93 CAI perf tune. I believe the settings loaded as they are for this tune are the best for the car. I will be swapping out the thermostat, just too lazy at the moment.
Anything else could and probably will sap power due to increased heat soak. As you may or may not be aware these engines hate heat, and the more heat they soak the less power you have on hand. So I take it your your not happy with and concerned with the fans staying on longer and coming on earlier. Is this the reason for query.
My response/opinion is that you have 2 choices (other than removing tune and staying stock) and both are for the reason stated above. Heat soak.
1st and most obvious, put up with the way it is and know that you are getting the most performance from your car with the stock thermostat setup. Only draw back are the fans running continually (is this the issue - if not why are you wanting to change settings)
2nd is to change the thermostat to a 180 (cheap and easy - 10 min job). Your fans should now not be as noticeble and fan setup in tune suit the thermostat exactly. Should almost be how the car was stock (except running much cooler). Last question any reason for being so against swapping out the thermostat?

my fans are running constantly with the canned 93 CAI tune, that is the problem. the only reason i don't want to change the thermostat is for warranty reasons. i can always return the car to stock tune before i take it in, but i don't want to go through having to change the thermostat back every time. if it really is only a 10 minute job, i may reconsider.
thanks for the info!!

The thermostat should not cause you any warranty problems or to your car either. The only time you should be concerned with mods and warranty is when the mod does cause the problem. In that case you knew that warranty wouldn't be covering you anyway. If you did have somthing go wrong with your car and the thermostat is proven NOT to have been the cause they have to cover it.
As an example I have an AFE CAI 22's and Zoomers cat back exhaust. The dealership I take my car to knows I have it, they did my 6000km second service with all these goodies installed and I went back 3 months ago to get the trans leak fix and a few other little things here and there. All covered under warranty and no question at all. I pickup the car, drive off and within 50 km I had shuddering through my transmission. After speaking with them straight away they told me to bring it in 1st thing next morning. Cut a long story short, I had to have Chrysler Care pickup my car from my house as the car would not drive the next day and I collected my car 7 days later with a brand new transmission installed. No hassle, no fuss, no comments about anything I had done. Why because they weren't the cause of the problem.
Go for it I say and enjoy:)

Go to the Knowledge Base in LXForums.com - there is a video how-to on changing the 'stat - really only takes 10 minutes.

Ok, this is just wrong. There are other easy to access options in this wonderful tool, it should have been a dropped dead a no brainer for them to make it selectable to maintain the stock stat. Not to mention, I would bet a majority of their customers are in that boat. As an alternative, if the 180 setting is so darn important, why does it not say so, rather than have the fans be a surprise? Further, if the 180 settings are so important, and the fans being on is totally trivial in their professional opinion, then why not inform us of that fact so that we don't have to worry something is going wrong or going to burn out prematurely? Are these fans really rated for 100% duty, or where they designed to only be on occassionally. I would rather not have to buy new ones. At the least, like some of the other options provided, they could have just put a "stock" option in the fan mode.

There is nothing wrong with the fans coming on!!
It is simply a personal issue that some have as they dont want to 'hear' them....if that is the case, feel free to adjust to suit your needs....its not too difficult at all.
Thanks

I went back to the default settings. Thank you for responding Mike. But my point is that it seems to have caused Diablo and it's customers far more effort than is necessary. The point is, it would have been real easy to add a "stock" fan option on your part, and further, since your expert advice is don't do this, a little message that says, "go ahead, but we do not recommend this". It would have prevented almost all of this confusion and concern.
Thanks to your advice, I now know I will just take the setting provided and let the fans run. My problem is solved.

i love that feature! i set my low speed fans at 190, the mid's at 215 and the highs at 220...
the vehicle stays at around 190 water temp and 220 average for the oil temp. with the stock thermostat and i don't hear any fan noise as compared to 215 and 240 average temps. from the factory.
you can push the low speed down to 150 if you like and it will be fine all by itself, no high speed noises but 150 is too much of an un-neccesary current draw in my opinion and 190 is too cold for the oil temp.
remember! cold engine, hot oil!
i can still see the picture of the Black SRT/8 Charger on Dodges website of the oil temp. when these Beasts first hit the webpage...
it was 305 degrees if i am not mistaken.
talk about a flogging! hell, the hottest my oil has ever gotten both in the Daytona and my SRT was 255!
