Recently picked up a Predator and went to apply the 91 tune. In the process I got an error about my CAL ID 68054009AD not being supported and that I would need to DOWNGRADE To CAL ID 68054009AC. I wasn’t comfortable with this so I hit the disagree button and did a quick Google. I read where someone had advised to upgrade the CROM file. So I did. Went from 9r28 to 9r30. Plugged it back in and the same “error” popped back up.

Did a little more Googling and found some info where people were saying to accept it. If I do that, it would basically downgrade my CAL ID that originally came in my car. What happens to the original AD file? Does it just get deleted/overwritten as my “original” tune? What does the factory AD file do differently than the AC file? If I ever needed to have the dealer do work on my car will it matter if I have the AC or AD file?

Is there a Diablo update yet???

Go ahead and accept it. There aren't any differences between the AC and AD file that will affect driveability or anything of the sort. We simply need to put the vehicle on a calibration that the tool can support so that we can tune the vehicle.

Can you explain how it all works a little better?

My understanding is when you first plug the Predator in, it saves the EXISTING factory tune (AD Calid). Once saved, you are allowed to use the canned tunes that come with the unit or custom tunes. However, should I ever need/want to sell the car or take it into the dealer for any reason I need to put the stock tune back on the car. Assuming I didn't have to downgrade, that would mean the AD Calid would be restored.

However, as it stands, I have to downgrade to the AC Calid in order to tune my vehicle. And that is the part that is confusing to me. I thought when the Predator saved your tune, it saved it "as-is" so if I had an AD tune, it would save an AD tune. But I guess there is some programming in the Predator unit that will rewrite the code in my car to an AC code? And then it saves the AC code, instead of the AD code? Then I can tune as needed/desired. And if I ever need to return the car to stock, I can use "restore original tune" and it will really load the "changed AD code that is now AC"? And if a dealer is looking at the code after I restore, they will just think I have the older AC code?

Wouldn't Dodge know that my car came with AD code, and that I had a tuner hooked up? Even if they didn't, and whatever issue I was having required a reflash of the computer to the AD code, it would be on a work ticket. So after I took it home and tried to retune again, it would bump the code back to AC and I end up in the same situation. Except the next time I would visit the dealership, they could say they updated the computer and have proof the code was changed.

Since it's been 2 years since the AD code was released, wouldn't it just be easier for Diablo to do an updated CROM file that contains provisions for the AD code?

It will downgrade the car to AC. AD will never be supported by the Predator. Anything thats not in there now, won't be. Once the inTune came out, the Predator died. Its obsolete. They aren't updating it anymore.

What Dodge knows means nothing. If you're still under warranty, they can't legally void it because you used an aftermarket part. If they question it, you can tell them why you downgraded. They don't like it, thats just too bad.

Does this mean the InTune and/or Trinity does not have this issue?

They may for now if the updates weren't done, but they'll be updated to the newest Cals eventually.

I know this is an older post, but I finally decided to tune my Mopar'10 that I've had for 2years with one of the 2 predators I've had also for years. The 1st one I grabbed has the same 9r28 described above and I got the same message as above about needing to downgrade from AC to AD... that's not happening. So I'm going to try the other one that I bought more recently for my wifes 300c. It has 9r30 on it (Tool Birth date is Jan/2012) so I assume that one should have the latest version of 9r30 on it which according to this website had it's last update on 11/02/2012.....

So my question is... if the version of 9r30 on mine is earlier than that last listed update... will the available Nov/2012 update, released a full 2 years AFTER the AD was last shipped in a Challenger... be updated to include AD.... or are all predators useless for a Mopar'10 unless your willing to downgrade the factory tune.
(Also, can it be returned to AD by the predator, once downgraded to AC ??)

Asking because it seems like there was a fair amount of time between the end of the AD shipping and the final 9r30 update to have added the AD support without requiring a downgrade to AC.

Optimistic since that final update was actually made just 3 days after this thread was started

I haven't taken the newer unit over to the garage to try it yet...

Why?

Every other Mopar 10 on the planet with one of our tools did the exact same downgrade, and once you tune the car you'll be ecstatic with the new performance, and you'll forget AD ever existed.

Because I didn't want to do anything to a limited production car that can't be returned to exactly the way it was on day one.
Not that it will be worth anything... just general principle.

As to how it will run on the tune... not sure how ecstatic I'd be while the car is still in otherwise stock form.
The reason I didn't load it yet is because it already ran a 13.4 @104+ bone stock. (cool fall air)
Not bad for 6 SPD and whatever that AD tune is.... (already quicker than many 6sp RT with a tune + cat-back)

I got the predator for when I change the exhaust and put shorties & High Flow's on it... which hasn't happened yet.
But I had planned to do it soon.... hence the honest inquiry question yesterday.

But I guess you answered the question ....
That during the 2+ years between when AD came out and your last update, you never bothered to add it.
Why not? Compared to everything else you guys went through I would have thought that to be pretty simple.
Especially being out over 2 years... you managed to crack the 2011 locked pcm during that time, but not update this.

And for the record many of the other Mopar'10s on the Planet did not add the tune...
I know I'm not alone.... just figured it would be added to an update someday.
Not to mention they might try void the warranty because the Dealer will NOTICE that my AD turned into AC.
Unless there is a way to return it back to the original AD... which was also part of my original question.

But hay... thanks for "The Customer is an idiot... everyone else on the planet did it" response anyway...
And to think I almost traded it in today for an InTune....
But then that probably doesn't like the AD either, or you would have likely added the code to the 9r30.
