spark knock

Post by clemsontigers000 »

I am trying to figure out what is an acceptable number for both long term and short term spark knock. I current have a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi. I am currently running the 91 tune in the truck and will be adding a catch can at the end of this week. Could you please let me know what the acceptable range for spark knock is? Thanks

its relative...

do you get knock with the stock tune?
if so, how much?

if it blips some KR during the shifts, and recovers quickly, its all good.

Mike,
Thanks for the reply. With the stock tune, we got 0 long term nor short term knock. The update "9r13" is a much better version than the "9r09." My reasoning for saying this is because the "9r09" version, I was getting double digits short and long term knock, and for that reason took the tune out. With the "9r13" version, and without a catch can, I am having 1 maybe hit 1.5 degrees on long term knock and 5 to 6 degrees short term knock. The knock usually starts when you get down on the throttle, wide open throttle. It will jump to its peak and decrease. Thats for both LT and ST knock. The other time I get knock is when I am climbing a bridge and the truck is lugging the higher gear before it downshifts. Once the downshift occurs, the knock goes back down to zero. Again I am running the 91 tune from the 9r13 version on a Ram Hemi without a catch can. Thanks again.

Add 5% fuel in the rpm range where its knocking. Keep adding fuel until it goes down.
