I got stuck out of town without my tunner and my truck lost a cylinder and had to go see the doctor. Yes it's at a dealer, and yes it's "still" under warranty. how much trouble ya'll think I could be in?

really? If GM requests parameters ya don't think they'll void my warranty? Only had the 87 octane tune in it with AFM (DOD) shut off. It could go as far as replacing the engine.

They'd have to physically read the PCM out, which is not something thats done with any regularity.
I have friends at a local Caddy dealership, and they have never, ever, been asked to read a PCM or send a PCM to GM in the name of an engine replacement, and they put blowers, heads/cam, strokers, etc in their customers vehicles and cover them.

awesome!! thanks Mikel. that's a relief. It lost the #4 cylinder over half way into my trip, got it to the shop a week ago today. They replaced the Cam, Cam phaser, Cam sensor, and all 8 AFM lifters. It had been oil fouling the #4 cylinder....humm...a ring maybe. Any way just got the call, their replacing all 8 pistons and rings today. hopfully I'll be going to get it tomorrow.....250 miles away!
thanks

heh, they're gonna wonder why it's not going into 4 cyl mode after they just replaced all the parts for it, so my guess is yeah - they will check things out on the ecm, and probably flash it back to stock GM programming..

yeah, they already did that. once I get it back I'll let the new pistons and rings get seated then probably shut it off again.

I'll probably need to wipe my tunner fresh so I can pull what the put in it before I make any changes. Any tips on how to do that?

fax or email proof of the reflash to us then call within the hour with the tool powered up so we can reset it.

basically a copy of their workorder showing/indicating on it that they reflashed/re-programmed the ecm...

ok, thanks I'll try to get that taken care of soon as I get it back. They got the pistons and rings replace put it all back together and is still has a misfire after all this, I think I'm about to start screaming new engine.

sounds lie a typical dealership...throwing parts at it without properly diagnosing the issue
Tell em you want a new PCM and harness, and if its still there, a nice new engine.

well, problem with that is I don't wana take the chance of shooting my self in the foot and end up them voiding the warranty and have to pay for all of it.

nothing for them to see...
I bet they already flashed the PCM with an updated file, and the tune is long gone by now anyhow...
