2012 Ram, Knock on 91 Tune
I'm running the 91 tune with 93 octane 10% ethanol added (it's the only 93 we have). I attached a log, just wanted to see if this is normal. ST spiked up to 6.5 for a brief moment.
If I need another log or any more variables to include let me know.
Update: I added a couple more lengthier logs. I added 2.5% fuel to 1-3.8K and 3% to the midrange on both the home and work files. I may need to bump it up to 5% on both.

I got up to 6 on my 12 5.7 also. The Diablo tune actually increased the ST retard. I got a custom Hemifever tune and it never gets above 2.5 now.

I'm just wondering if maybe the 91 without ethanol would make a difference over the 93 with ethanol

After reading this I started watching my knock gauge. On the 93 tune, I have zero knock at any RPM. I don't know whats going on with you guys

knock can vary some from truck to truck on the same tune.eric448503 wrote:After reading this I started watching my knock gauge. On the 93 tune, I have zero knock at any RPM. I don't know whats going on with you guys
are you looking at Short Term knock or Long Term knock? ST is the one you need to be watching most of the time.

popcenator,
looked at part of your "home" log, and most knock seems to be above 4000rpm. not bad, but I prefer to see no more than 1 to 1.5 degree of knock.
did you try pulling spark? my first try for reducing knock would be less spark, not add more fuel.

Re: 2012 Ram, Knock on 91 Tune
I added about 5% fuel at all RPM ranges and reduced spark 1* at all ranges. It's much less now, peak is usually around 3.5 which I know is still too high, though normally not above 2-2.5. It occasionally spikes above that. It runs great, I just want to avoid doing any damage. I'll get another log today on the way to work. Should the 93 octane with 10% ethanol be more than enough for the 91 tune?
I'm going to reduce the fuel back to normal, and take a couple more degrees of timing at all ranges and see what that does for me.

Re: 2012 Ram, Knock on 91 Tune
I set the fuel back to normal and reduced spark 2* at all RPMs and still getting spikes of 4-5. Not often, but they're there. I'm planning on getting a custom tune in the next month but would like to figure this out in the meantime. I'll post log of my trip home from work tonight. Thanks for your help everyone.
I've read that ST knocks around the shifts are normalish or nothing to worry about but I just want to make sure that's what's happening.

Re: 2012 Ram, Knock on 91 Tune
yes, some ST knock at WOT shift points is common.
93 octane with 10% ethanol should still have 93 octane and perform similar to straight 93. it should be plenty octane for a 91 tune.
have you chosen a custom tuner?

I was thinking hemifever because Sean was the only one I knew of, I haven't shopped around much though to see what options there are.

Sean is a good tuner. there are a lot of other Dodge CMR tuners, though: https://www.diablosport.com/dealer-locator.html

Re: 2012 Ram, Knock on 91 Tune
Are a lot of them similar, as in, send a log and the tune gets refined, or are they more of an in person dyno tune?

Re: 2012 Ram, Knock on 91 Tune
some are e-mail tuners, e-mail log and get tune refinement, or log and tune in person.
I am an e-mail/log in person tuner.
another option is to do logs on a dyno and e-mail to a tuner.
some tuners have a shop and own their own dyno.
the dealer locator should show you which tuners have an in-house dyno.

Re: 2012 Ram, Knock on 91 Tune
yeah unfortunately there are no tuners even close to me, at least not within 400 miles. You've been very helpful so I I'm interested to know more about your tuning.
