2006 Jeep Wrangler tune questions

Post by unlimited06 »

Hello, I have a non-rubicon 06 Wrangler Unlimited 4.0L with the manual transmission. I'm looking to buy a Diablo tuner but have a few questions first. There dosen't seem to be alot of 4.0L Wrangler owners on here.

My first question is, are there any jeep specific tune programs for the 4.0 that come pre programmed? I saw a show that did a quick review ofa Diablo that mentioned something about a crawl tune for offroading but they didn't mention wether it was specifically for the JK and wether or not that tune could be used with a manual trans or just the auto trans. Can this offroading tune be used with the 4.0L with a manual transmission? Also, would this tune be offered in both the Trinity as well as the I-1000?

I was also wondering what the differences in HP and torque gains there are between the 4.0L auto trans VS the Manual transmissions?

Thanks in advance for any info.

yes, you'll get tunes for 87, 91, 93 octane and the crawl tune.
manual cals usually make about 5 rwhp more than the autos.

Thanks for replying. I assumed that all the octane tunes were available on all models.

Just to clarify, the Crawl tune will work with the manual transmission on the 4.0l wrangler? Also are you saying that the manual transmission can yeild an extra 5 rwhp over an auto trans?

Thanks again.

Mike:

I purchased a Trinity for my 2012 RAM. Never thought to use it on my Jeep! However, mine's an 04 (4.0L). What changes occurred from 04 to 05 that make the Trinity incompatible with the 04, while OK with the 05?

Thanks for the great product for my RAM though!

In 2005-06 jeep changed the Wrangler ignition over to electronic. Since the ignition is controlled by the computer, it can be tuned. I dont have plug wires or a distributor cap and rotor.

Wow. I stand corrected. I thought thats when they changed over. Now i'd like to know what the difference is.

Does your exhaust header pipe have two cats monitored both up and downstream of them? Four O2 senzors total with a 3rd cat next to the trans. Just curious. I know federal laws were changing towards the end of the TJ/Lj run.

Affirmative. Sensors before and after both post manifold cats, and an additional converter at trans.

Based on limited research (lunch), it appears that the changeover took place for the 2000 model year.
