DOD & oil pressure

Post by steelo »

My concern is that DOD only works sometimes. I did the 87 octane tune, and left DOD on, so I don't know why it won't switch on now. It was fine for the first few days after I tuned it, but it seems once the computer relearned, it stopped working.

Also, I noticed that my oil pressure shows a bit of a drop after the tune. It would generally fluctuate as I accelerate or decelerate, but now it seems to stay at one constant pressure, with an ever so small increase on acceleration. 2007 Silverado 1500 LTZ 6.0L Vortec Max.

Can I ask why you left DOD on? I get the same or better mileage than stock on my 08 vortec max running the 87 tune with DOD disabled. How many miles are on your truck and does it use any oil? Also, the tune will have no effect on oil pressure. Could it just be that you are paying more attention to it now?

I left it on just to compare mpg gains/losses with when I turn it off. However, with it on, it DOD only engages sometimes, so I won't be able to make a clear comparison. My truck has 170,00 miles, and I just replaced the Oil Sending Unit, and the filter screen inside the manifold. Oil use is normal. This was all done before I tuned it, and the oil pressure would read right about 40 psi under cruising conditions. Now it read a little above 20 psi, but is constant, and never drops too low.

Use your tool to read the PID (oil pressure) and see if the gauge, is wrong. Is it the correct sensor, because if it is not indicating high enough oil pressure the DoD will not function. do you still have the old sensor, try swapping it back in.

I sent it back for RMA.

After I had the sending unit replaced, the oil pressure was reading just like it should, and DOD was engaging. About a week after the repair is when I tuned it, and all was fine until it "relearned", and has been doing this ever since. I'm not getting any CELs and the truck drives fine. I just notice the little stuff like this and my OCD has me watching the oil pressure guage like a hawk.

I don't think the sensor was changed, and if so, I don't have the old one.

well, a tune wouldn't affect/change how the sensor is operating at all... odd....

I know., which is weird. Once I get my Intune back, I am going to put the stock file back in and see what the issue really is. If it is still like this once I do that, then I know I need to take it to my mechanic to diagnose.
