lean mixture

Post by randy_ls2_c6 »

yesterday we went to an American car meeting and when I opened up my cutouts when a man came to me and said it could be dangerous. He said when you open them up there is more air coming out so it will lean out your fuel mixture at high rpm's wich could be the end of your engine after a while. Does anyone know if he's right about that and that I should make it richer? btw I drive an 07 C6 with a VR intake, cutouts and a diablo 91 canned tune

Yes this is true! With the mods alone you should have it dialed in properly ( actually a custom tune should be carried out to do it correct) and once the closed system is all dialed in then there should be more data logging done and a second custom tune done for the open system to assure the most out of your setup and engine life. (remember to close the cut-out after idle down ,prior to shut down as not to allow cold air to rush in and quickly cool your valves, shortens their life dramatically)
For full personalized tune requirements I recommend :http://www.diablewtune.com/

Whats an intake cutout? I know about exhaust cutouts, which don't lean out anything, but never heard of intake ones.

" I know about exhaust cutouts, which don't lean out anything" Actually it is all according to where they are placed and whether or not they leak when closed. Also things to consider with it/them open is lower backpressure + different load and sensor info if the o2 sensors are before or after. After all a pinhole leak 1 foot past #2 sensor can dramatically change everything.

They are after the cats, before the mufflers, like so:

Right. Usually with present day vehicles they're mounted at the back to bypass the mufflers. And since the tunes aren't changed for catbacks, they shouldn't have to be changed for cutouts either. Putting them up before the cats or right after them is looking for trouble. That will mess with the sensors and throw codes.
