My Mechanic Replaced My ECU

Post by Mitragorz »

This was about a year ago. I took my truck (2005 Silverado 1500, 'B' code) to my mechanic because it started running funny. No get-up-and-go, very sluggish. He ran the ECU on the reader and said that my fuel trims were all out of whack. I told him I adjusted them with the Predator, so he gave me a lecture about how I have no idea what I'm doing.

Maybe I don't, but that's not the issue. He tried to use the predator to restore the ECU back to stock, but it wouldn't take. He also couldn't adjust anything with whatever unit he uses to make those adjustments. He told me the computer was bad, so a GM tech came to his shop and put in a new one, along with any updates GM had issued since the truck was new. Well he turned out to be totally wrong, so I don't use him anymore. Plus he was kind of a dick.

The point is, my predator still thinks that my truck is tuned. I haven't plugged it back into the truck because I'm not sure what will happen. I assume that if I use the "restore to stock" option, or whatever it's called, it'll bring the truck back to how it was back in 2010, and without the updates (if any) that were put into this new computer by the GM tech.

I haven't even bothered with it since because I just didn't want to deal with it. Well, now I'm looking for exhausts and headers for the truck, and the place where I got all my mods (not the mechanic from above) uses a tuning shop that uses, you guessed it, Diablosport stuff. If I could save a few hundred bucks by using my own unit that'd be dandy.

Is there any hope in bringing this unit back from its "tuned" state?

Got proof that the ECU was replaced? Gotta FAX that in and then call with the Predator powered up. They can reset most of them over the phone.

On another note, should have just called DiabloSport instead of taking the truck to a mechanic. The ECU wasn't bad. The GM PCMs almost never go bad, and when they do, the truck won't run at all.

Thanks for that info. I was able to dig up the invoice, I'll see what Customer Service has to say about it.
