Help! I think my Predator Doesn't Work! Can't Read Car Type!

Post by adamcontrol »

Okay, hear's the deal. I got my Predator in the mail yesterday. Plugged it into my car, hit an option ie. "Performance Tune". Predator tells me to turn car on but not start engine and apply brake. Did that. Next the unit told me that it was unable to read vehicle type and to make sure car is on but not running. After hitting "continue" a few times it tells me to reboot the system.

Today I downloaded the V18 update to the Predator. Updated the unit without a problem and plug her into the car.....same problem.

Is she gonna be okay? Or is she dead?

Turn the ignition ON - not ACC - second stop - all the dash lights should be on.

Deep breath, try it again :)

OK - take a look at the Predator OBD connector.
You should see a total of 6 pins - 3 in each row.
Make sure none of the pins are pushed back so they would not make contact when plugged in.

The pins look like they are all out enough. The one on the top row to the right looks like it is out more than the others, though, but all-in-all they all sit at about the same length.

Mine looks exactly the same.

Dunno what else to suggest - sounds like time for a call to the support line.
I'm sure they'll help you out.

Let us know how you make out.

Good troubleshooting guys!
It would appear there is an issue in this tool, likely a loose connection somewhere.
Fill out an rma request or ask your delaer if they can replace it for you.

I think I am having the same problem but with a U7194 on a 2007 Chevy Silverado new body 4.8 v8. Just got the tool today download the newest revision 8r10. and when I conect it to my truck I get the same error message that is shown above. My connector only has 5 pins it does not have the top left pin and the lower right pin is moved 1 space left otherwise exactly the same as above. Is there any thing That might help? Or am I stuck with sending my brand new tool back to be fixed? I was so looking forward to playing with it this weekend. Thanks

Can you plug the tool in and see if it will show live data, or go to options/troubleshooting/show calids and tell me if it displays the calids?

Thanks
