Added Cai

Post by Crowebar »

Ok I'm running the diablo tune 93 octane one on my 2012 chevy silverado 5.3 liter. I just added a k&n 63 series intake today is it safe to run with the tune. Will the computer still adjust my air to fuel ratio with the tune installed after the added airflow. I sent my intune in for repairs due to a faulty connector yesterday so I'm kinda stuck right now. I plan on doing a custom tune when I get it back.

Your fine. If thats the only mod you have skip the custom tune. Its gonna be a waste of 75-300 bucks. Save that custom tune for when you put on ported heads or change the CAM.

uhhh.. not true.... maybe in the dodge world it is, haha, but not for GM's...

I custom tune GM's 7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day....

Even when they're completely stock, with the custom tune, you'll gain even better/quicker throttle response & acceleration, stronger/harder pull, smoother & quicker power delivery throughout the rpms, etc...

yes it's safe to run the preset tunes in the truck with the new cold air intake... would you benefit from a custom tune though to get your fueling/timing adjusted correctly and dialed in, as well as a bunch of other tweaks?? Yes, absolutely...

As far as gains go... absolute hp/tq gains are hard to predict... every vehicle is different... even if they're the same and have similar mods... location/weather, fuel used, elevation/altitude, etc etc all play a role... the same holds true for mileage gains - those variables, plus driving habits/style, how much highway vs city driving, etc all make a difference.... you could gain no mpg increase, or you could gain up to about 3 mpg increase... tough to say due to the variables in play... so there is no guarantee of any specific amount of hp/tq or mileage gains...

with the custom tune, I CAN tell you that you will definitely have a very noticeable performance difference/gain over and above the canned preset diablo tunes...

I have gained people anywhere from 12-39hp, and 10-23lb. ft. torque...and 0 to 2 mpg - above and beyond what the preset canned tunes give you...

so yes, you would definitely gain more power/performance with a custom tune, get your fueling dialed in for the new change in airflow, etc etc...

Crowebar,

After you get your custom tune, report back in this thread. I would love to hear what you gained over the canned tune and what the MPG does vs. the cost of the tune. If you go to a local dyno place they will do at least a initial pull to see what they are dealing with. I take it that would be your truck with just the canned tune and CAI.

I just did a tune for a guy's 5.3 Silverado yesterday as a matter of fact... WHILE he was on a dyno.... and he sent me pics of the dyno charts...

HP gain - went from 289 to 299.86

TQ gain went from 287 to 302.73

I will be in touch Lew as soon as you guys get my intune back to me. I did notice today while driving the same stretch of hilly road here in rural Kentucky that my truck is no longer losing power on the grades and having to down shift. Ive just had this truck a few weeks and have kept a close eye on the mpg,I reset my average every time on the same stretch I was getting 22 mpg today I was getting 24.6 that's running cruise at 65 mph.

sounds good man.. thank you!

so as soon as DIABLOSPORT gets your intune back to ya, you can contact me whenever you're ready... www.diablewtune.com

I do not work AT diablosport (I'm a consultant 2800 miles away with my own home business), so I have no say/control of what they do when, or how fast things get fixed/sent out... hahaha...

Ok I've been running on my custom tune for a while now and I love it. The throttle response is awesome it's like a freaking sports car. I've left several little punks sitting in the dust. I can't say enough good stuff about lee and the service he provides. I'm averaging about 17 mpg after it's all said and done and these are mostly curvy uphill and down hill miles and I'm no easy driver. I am getting 24 mpg on the interstate but I don't get the opportunity to do that much where I am located at.iI just wish I could run e85 on this tune cause it's finally showed up here for 2.53 a gallon versus 3.60 a gallon for 93 octane.
