How Do I DATA LOG FOR MISS

In an effort to diagnose the intermittent miss, I have decided to data log in hope catching the miss in action. I have a couple of questions on Data Logging. 
1: Does the predator have to be connected during this entire process?
2: What parameters for this specific problem do you reccomend I use?
