U7194 for NBS Chevy 6.0

Post by JCC »

Well, at long last the GM TEAM has delivered with the LONG awaited calid update to support my "k" motor truck! I must say though, after reading all of the sad stories concerning the 6.0 engines, I was fairly nervous about the install this morning. Was I going to need to call a tow truck in the morning, or could I tear up the pavement instead?

The latter, thank goodness!

And WHAT a difference. Now why couldn't GM just do it like that in the first place? TM: probably the most over-thought, bit of programming GM ever came up with. A little is fine - perhaps even necessary. But to the extent that my NBS Chevy was tuned? Get a clue guys ( and get the mini-van driving girly folks out of the programmers chairs !)

I LIKE THE NEW TUNE ! Although I am not sure I would be willing to wait the 7 months again in the future, I am glad I didn't ditch the Predator for another brand. Still needs some tweeking and, of course, those trany and further TM mods, but for now, this will do nicely. GOOD JOB.

Thanks,
JCJ

AFM????

Post by santaman58 »

Hey by chance did you use the new update and turn off the Active Fuel Management? Was wondering how it worked. Also what tune did you use? I have same truck model and will be programming very soon when unit arrives. Some hints would sure be helpful, especially regarding the torque management stuff. Thanx.

The 2500 versions of the 6.0 do not have AFM...at least the 07' models did not when I bought mine. The 08' versions might - I think I heard talk of possibly adding that in future models, perhaps even later in the model year. But as for my truck, I do not have AFM.

The tune I started with is the 93 octane version. And as I said, it does make QUITE a difference. Without a dyno or track to check exact figures, it is difficult to say exactly how much more power has been unleashed, but suffice to say that from what used to be a dead dog at a stop light, I can now tear up quite a bit of pavement! In fact, just for kicks, I immediately took it out for a test run ( and a couple of burn-outs ) and came back 15 minutes later with - and I am not joking here - OVER 1/4" inch LESS TREAD! I haven't had that much fun since my "smokey & the bandit" big block T/A in high school.

As for the TM...I see that they already have another update for these 7194's on the site. Unless they have added that feature to the new program, I don't think that is possible yet, though they have promised to do so at some point as well as tranny adjustments. Can't wait!
