The truth about secondary 02 sensors.

Ive searched but its hard to get a definitive answer. Its for a 2007 jk wrangler.
Ive got o2s disabled in my cmr tune but want to unplug and remove the secondary 02s to make way for wideband sensors.
Prior to them being disabled did they actually have any input what so ever other than to alert that catalyst efficiency is out? Some people say they contribute to AFR
After they have been disabled are they completely disabled? what if any parts stay active?
