2011 Ram shifting

Post by snakebit »

finally got everything working. I think.
loaded 93 tune with shift points set at 6000 for first-second.
still can not spin a tire on launch.barely around a corner!
traction control turned off with dash button.
3:55 gears may have something to do with it, but I just don't feel any difference as far as torque management.
on the shift from first to second under full throttle the trans seems to double clutch 2 times before shifting into second.
really falls on it's face as far as acceleration at that point. :(
any suggestions??

so disabling TC in quick adj turns off the TC and lights up all the dash lights- TC-BRAKE-ANTI-LOCK-ETC.
read where it would do that.
still doesn't seem to be any Torque Management difference.
it did seem to get rid of some of the pushing the clutch in feeling when shifting.
will probably just go back to leaving TC on in the adjustments.
prefer to keep my anti lock for daily driving.

That seems strange (to me). I also have an '11. 4x4 Quadcab with 3.55 gears. My truck will spin the tires no problem through first gear. In fact it makes it hard to get a good launch because of it.

By saying torque management, what are you referring to? Do these trucks have some sort of power reduction or something along those lines under hard acceleration if the wheels are slipping? And if this is the case, is the DS supposed to change the way the PCM controls that stuff?

I did not change any of the transmission shift points in my truck. Currently running 87 Performance on 93 fuel.

One thing I was wondering about, and maybe Mikel can chime in. Is there anyway to effectively change where the transmission shifts at to help improve fuel economy? For instance, in my manual trans car, I can shift through all 6 gears at ~2000rpm and doing so gains me about 100 miles of range per tank full of gas. Granted, the car is not much fun to drive around like that, but it is a good way to keep fuel costs down. Therefore, I was wondering if I could make the Ram trans shift at a lower RPM while doing normal daily driving to save on fuel. Is this feasible?

Yes. I didn't have a problem spinning them even before the DS. My truck came with GY Wrangler HP tires (which were horrible) and I currently have Michelin LTX M/S2 and they spin also (which I don't do since they are $280/ea)

But I am a little surprised that yours will not spin them with the TC off....

I think it has to do with the Torque Management.
I can't tell a difference from stock to Diablo tune.
it will spin them in wet conditions but so will the kid's 96 Toyota!!!!!
I do have a fiberglass topper on it but it should spin !
I had a 2004 Rumble Bee truck that would light them up as long as you held your foot down!!!
you can definitely feel what i'm talking about.
to the floor from a dead stop is sad.
if you let up on the throttle 1/8-1/4 inch it takes off!!!
feels like you just hit the bottle!!!!

probably just going back to stock and sell the Trinity.
shift firmness is better stock anyway.
about the only use I am getting out of it is top speed limiter and bumping the shift rpms up.

I get what you are saying. I'm not sure why one truck would be that different from the other. Whats a topper weigh? 200lbs? Shouldnt make a difference.

Maybe DS can chime in on this

probably a little heavier than 200.
I know the gearing is a big factor but you can physically feel the difference when you let off the throttle a bit.
if I understand correctly Torque management is not Traction control.
T/C is when the electronics activate your brakes to keep the wheel from spinning
maybe I'm wrong on how all this works, but something is definitely holding me back at full throttle from a standing start and there doesn't seem to be a difference from stock to a Diablo tune as far as it happening.
