2014 5.3 backfire issue

Post by mzodarg »

Been working on a solution for this for more than a month, On a wide open throttle run truck shifts from 1 to second at 5600 rpms and backfires, same thing from 2nd to 3rd. This happens on a custom tune, and the diablo 91/93 tune. I've even gone so far as to add octane booster and I'm using top tier 91 octane fuel

Did not notice this in the beginning, but have had the third cat removed and that's when I could hear it. I believe it was masked due to the third cat. I've checked and rechecked the air intake (stock) and nothing is apparent.

My question is, does anyone else experience this with third cat delete. Lew cannot see any event on the logs.

Next question, in the tuning parameter- Can the fuel cut be toggled off in the torque management? I think it's cutting fuel and it subsequently is purging and causing a backfire. Just my wag. Other than that, truck runs like a beast.

Any help is appreciated,
Mike

So I must be the anomaly...Lol

Here is what I've checked so far. I made sure that my intake (stock) was seated tight with no leaks, checked to ensure plugs were all tight, went under the vehicle and checked all the exhaust welds for any carbon deposits, wanted to make sure it wasn't leaking ( thought it could be scavenging through a leak).

Still same results. I am going to purchase HP tuners and have a go with that application. Nothing worse than an issue with a product, ask for help and GET crickets!
