Smooth MDS

One thing I noticed with my new Predator (currently have r18) with the 93 CAI tune is that the MDS doesn't know what it wants to do.
One of the few things I liked about my old Superchips was that the MDS seemed to come in sooner and stay longer giving me an increase in milage that kind of offset the additional cost of 93 octane.
It would be great if you guys could add the more agressive MDS in a future revision.

That would have to be a user switchable item. Most guys (99.999%) who are modding their cars couldn't care less about economy, and absolutely would be dead set against having it in 4 cylinder mode more. They want their performance always there, whether cruising, coasting or beating the piss out of the car. I can't blame them. If you pay for performance it should be there.

9.1mpg and not caring one bit.

AJ, I'll see if there is something that can be done.
If you would like, email me your backup file and I'll have Johan try something out.

Thanks

Actually it is a "user switchable" item because I believe you can shut the MDS completely off with the Predator correct??
I don't know which 99.99% you're talking to but the majority of guys I know want it to go like heck but still get some decent milage around town. Obviously someone with a SRT is unconcerned with mileage. :?

Thanks Mike, I'll send it or stop by the shop.

I guess I'm in that .01% too AJ.

My 06 R/T 05/05 build has dropped about 3 MPG, and I really have to work it to keep MDS happy. I run the same route with the same driving conditions frequently.
Running in 5th with MDS off, I drop another MPG.

I'm also interested in anything the programming wizzards may find.

Thanx for the Excellent support Diablo!

So, you mean you have lost 3 mpg with the Predator tune?

Thanks

Yes, the mpg loss is also aparent in my consistant stop and go commute, dropping from 17 to 15 mpg.I've only had 2 runs on my highway route, getting 23,5 and 23.7 on those runs.
r18 91 perform. tune w/ drop in K&N, and 91 CAI tune with AFE2.
Same fuel supply, and I'm not sure if Ca. switched to a winter blend.
Upshifting and down shifting are frequent, and I can only get about a 6' scratch on a brake torque. 1300 miles on the car right now.

I read Johans explanation of the changes between r17 and r18, and Apparently, the car should run strong as it did on r17. I never had a idle surge issue.
r17 was the first crom that worked on this 06, 05/05 build R/T. and it really made a major difference, squalling the tires thru 1st, and throttle tip in was very noticable. I didn't do a highway trip with that tune, but switched to r18 for the data logging I'll need for the cam, headers, and hi flow cats going on soon. Also installing the Zetroic wideband at that time.

I'll flash back to stock for a trip this weekend.
Then I'll re-download the r18 crom from this site, and re-flash the car with that.

I went on a road trip with the car flashed back to stock and went back up to 26.5 mpg. So I guess there isn't anything wrong with the car.
Reloaded r17 canned 91, and the car runs like a beast!
No time to play with the Holidays. I'll get my datalogging and Wideband together in January and figure out what's up with a re-load or r18. Probably a CMR tune right after my mild build.

Wishing all a Joyous Holiday Season!
Thanx for a great product and support.

Installed new dowloader and re-downloaded 8r18. I still don't have gear hold with auto shift disabled, but it's running strong. Still seems hard to keep it in MDS, but haven't done a road trip.

I'll be installing a wideband with a cam, headers, and hi flow cats, and look forward to a CMR tune. Hopefully some L.A. area shops will be gaining some experience on LX's while I do my build!

I have no idea why the first tune with 8r18 was so much different that the second install, probably user error along the way.

Nice Christmas present!

I too would be interested in having the MDS come on sooner, mine doesn't seem to come on till I hit 75mph or so? at least thats when I hear the drone

It couldn't be partially now you might be beating up the car a little more since it runs a little more like it should. Granted the MDS comes in later but if are like me, I'd rather have the car sound right when cruising around town with headers & exhaust than having it sound like toilet for 2 mpg looking . But then again I have never left my car in drive. Hate letting a program run the car all the way. Especially shifting! Cmr tuning can bring MDS it in earlier. Maybe a toyota camry was really what your for. LOL

In my experience, my MPG is better than it was stock, but still less than it was with the Superchips... Could it be that I drive it differently now? Sure it could, but I have made no obvious changes in driving style or roads driven so I do honestly beleive the MPG has suffered a bit with the Predator... The surging of MDS is VERY annoying, and I would REALLY rather not hurt MPG even more by turning it off...

As for the Camry comment (yes I understand you were only making a joke, no hard feelings here), I just want the best of all worlds.. You know, have my cake and eat it too(MMMM CAKE!).... Would I be willing to sacrifice some MPG for more performance, sure I would, but if it is possible to have BOTH, good gas mileage and performance, then that is exactly what I want.

Besides, my car is a daily driver, used for a lot of highway miles for my job... Since the company foots the bill for the gas, I REALLY do not need to see a huge increase in usage as at some point they would push for me to get a more economical car!

Fix the surging, I will be very happy, fix the surging AND find a way to get even better MPG, well, I would bow to you! (Fix the low temp thermostat code too and well, I might start making offers we would both regret!)
