do i need a special program to run my u7194 with my laptop?

Yes, the DataViewer Program, downloadable from this web site.... Go to product support, select the U7194, and scroll down to the downloads section. You'll find it there.

If you did not purchase the PC Interface Kit, which allows you to connect your Predator to your PC, you will need that. Includes an RS232 to USB adaptor cable, as well as a power supply to power up the predator when not connected to your vehicle. Check with the vendor that sold you the unit, or the DS On-Line Store to purchase (inexpensive).

On my truck, am running the 93 (Diablo) Tune "Out of the Box" ... have not adjusted any parameters. Have run a few logs and don't feel there is a need based on the data gleaned from the logs.

Check out the stickies at the top of this forum and you can extract a load of info on taking some logs and reducing the data from the logs and taking a look at the data and how your vehicle is running.

check out: http://www.dslogredux.com to assist you in reducing your log file and assisting in parameter calculations.

The DSDownloader is the app you would use to update your firmware (crom file)

The DataViewer is the one that allows you to extract your log from your Predator, look at the "live playback" and also export it as a .csv file for use in DSLogRedux ....

I downloaded both of those.

the GMLS2InterfaceInstaller is used to import/export tunes to/from your predator/pc...

so you have a serial to USB cable....

when you say it doesn't work, please describe what does/doesn't happen

BTW here is a link to what you should have

http://www.shopatron.com/product/part_n ... 56.0.0.0.0

I assume you hook the predator to the computer, power up the predator, and....what happens?

the predator can not be powered from the USB cable. It needs its own adaptor/transformer cable (see link above)

I bought a USB to sieral adapter from radio shack. It came with a driver disk, the driver instaled fine. I tried to get both the ds downloader and the data viewer to connect to the predator through the cable. the data viewer says scanning serial serial ports. nothing happens keeps saying that its scanning serial ports. on the ds downloader it will not connect in n e way. auto connect or anything. also i had the predator powered by a 12volt 1 amp power adapter like the one diablosport sells.

Just because a driver installs, doesn't necessarily mean that Vista is seeing the hardware...

hmmmm... this has a "vista" smell to it ....

We sure that it is a vista compatible driver ?

I guess the first thing I will do is post to the dataviewer forum here and see if vista poses any particular issues.....

any way you can upgrade your machine to XP ?????
(just kidding)

So... could be the driver or dataviewer.

I'll post in the DataViewer Forum and check on vista issues there...

Also, I'll ask Monte tomorrow if he has ever tried the Dataviewer with Vista, I haven't.

Now, do you have access to an xp machine to try to connect the Predator to Dataviewer via XP using the purchased cable? If THAT works, then we have narrowed it down to the OS. That would be useful to know...

We'll get there --- may take a little "tweaking" (MS-speak for fixing Vista)

honestly not sure, BUT, it is a DS product. I'll ammend the post below with your question...

Here is the post I just made in the Dataviewer Forum

Let me do a little digging tomorrow myself. Got a freind with a Predator and a new VIsta Laptop. If he's in town, i'll ping him to see if he's tried it on Vista.

Also, check this out:

Now, can't remeber where, but I recall reading that it MUST be a "straight thru" cable......

not to worry, we'll get there......(somehow) !

One more thing...

One other thing, what firmware revision is on your predator NOW (across the top of the screen when booted .... should be 8r10 )

is it the latest? if not, that would be the FIRST thing to fix.

May take an XP machine though.... gotta good friend with an xp laptop?

My predator is brand new 8R10.

Just got off the phone with Radio Shack tech support and they said they dont sell anykind of usb to serial adapter that is compatibal with vista. so that solves that problem...

My dell laptop dosent have a serial port, so that almost eliminates the ability to use my laptop with the predator unless the usb interface that diablosport sales will work with vista.

My guess is it does... just not sure.. I am sure there will be an answer on the dataviewer forum tomorrow.

given the radio shack answer, I have a funny feeling that the DS cable will fix this.

I am sure we will know tomorrow...
