U9000 (U7135)

Post by mjalstad »

I recently sold a U9000 (U7135) and received this email from the buyer:

"Received the U7135 tuner and today tried to use it. It worked fine at first, reading my existing tune, etc. But when I tried to load the new 91 octane tune, the U7135 unit began physically smoking (with burnt electronics smell) and the download was unsuccessful. Tried to download the tune again and same thing happened... lots of smoke out of the programmer! I was fortunate the PCM on my 2005 Magnum RT wasn't fried!"

I got it back and plugged it in and it looked like everything worked just fine but I could smell a strange smell so I opened the programmer and found a burnt up component which I have attached pictures of.

So, my first question is what caused this to happen? Is this a bad programmer or is something screwed up in his car that caused this to happen? If I send him another U7135, will that same thing happen again?

Secondly, what can be done to get this thing fixed?

Thanks!

I am curious as to what would cause this as well. I have heard this happening on 2005 models only. Mine did make a smell like that but hasn't burned up yet.

This is very interesting because I just used the U7135 on my 2005 Magnum RT lastweek, and the smoke came out... I freaked alittle but everything I've asked it to do so far it has done.... Should I contact Customer Support?

Thanks, Todd
