There was a question on the Genesis Coupe forums about why DS is building handhelds and hardware instead of building a solution that would run on a smart phone. I tried to look around for an answer, but didn't get far. I had a few thoughts, but figured I'd ask here.
So, why a proprietary handheld device and not just a smart phone or even a laptop solution? Really interested in the technical details behind the decisions.
Why a handheld and not a phone app?
Re: Why a handheld and not a phone app?
Because DiabloSport is a hardware company, not a software company. We've been over this in the past several times.

one problem, not everyone has a smart phone...believe it or not
Also, some of our competitors have offered similar products, and last I checked, they are sitting on shelves taking up space.
None of this is to say we won't do so in the future though....

I actually do all my logging and coding through my iPhone, and the bluetooth connection modules are always out of stock, so it must be the domestic owners who don't have smartphones.
Or your competitors are incompetent morons and nobody wants their tunes anyway.

I own a Trinity and a In-Tune and do not want another path for hackers to get into my vehicles.mikel wrote:one problem, not everyone has a smart phone...believe it or not
