Knock retard with 91 CAI tune with fuel added

Hi guys,

I have a 06 300C SRT8 with AFE stage 2 and 185 stat as only mods. I installed the 91 CAI tune and added 10% fueling in all ranges to account for our oxygenated gas up here in Canada. It is winter time here and very cold (14-30 degrees F but it's going up to 50F next week hehe)

Doing a run in second gear (autostick) from 2000rpm and shifting into third at 6400 rpm I am getting up to 4 degrees knock throughout the run. Do I need to add even more fuel? (Timing is unchanged and commanded AF is 11.37:1 though I know that isn't whats actually seen)

So my questions are:

1) is 4 degrees knock significant enough to warrant dropping the timing a degree or should I add more fuel?
2) How soon are we going to see integration between Innovate and the dataviewer/predator handheld?
3) I was looking at ST knock retard (long term is zero) The total knock reading was 120 which didn't mean anything to me.
4) Is there long term corrections to the WOT fueling to hit the targetted AF? Will the STRIMs/LTRIMs affect WOT AF?

Thanks for your help! I have access to 94 and might try the 93 octane tune and add 5% fuel to see how that works. I wish the wideband integration was complete then I'd be able to fully road tune this beast :)

Cheers,
Chris

One thing I forgot to mention...I had ESP enabled for the runs. Does ESP cause any knock retard or reduced timing when it kicks in? (Just curious)

Going to load the 93 octane tune tonight if I have time and log on the highway with ESP off in third gear (so I can get traction) :)

Chris, it does sound like there is a KR issue, but first thin gI would do is get some of that 94 octane, and run it with the 91 tune to see if it goes away.
If so, you can try creeping up on the timing or going to the 93 tune.
If it is still there, you will likely need to add some fuel.

Check Innovates forums, as they have been keeping people up to date on that process.

Thanks

Thanks Mike, I'll try that first and let you know if it reduces KR at all...
Do you know (or can you ask Johan) if the IAT vs fueling was changed in the tunes?
Thanks,
Chris

I am new to the Predator party but I have no knocks yet with my 91 Performance tune. I'm in Canada too and have made no corrections to fuel. That's the first time I read about making a fuel adjustment for Canada gas. Interesting.

Here is a pic of my log after adding 94 octane. (It helped with only 2 degrees knock max and likely that was on the shift :) )

I've since added 2% more fuel to the bands (12% total) and lowered the fan settings a little bit. I will log again today and post the results.

Logged again and the peak knock retard is now 1 degree...It definitely likes it fatter with the lower fan settings. :)

Should I try the 93octane tune and go through the process again or just stick with the custom 91CAI tune I have now?

Any other differences between the 91 and 93 octane besides a couple degrees timing?

I can bump up the timing in the 91 tune and go a little fatter again to see if I gain much...Maybe 2 degrees more timing and 2-3% more fuel?)
Cheers,
Chris

I loaded the 93octane tune with lowered fans settings and was getting 4-4.5KR. Richened all ranges 12% and it went down to 2-2.5 KR in the 4000-6400rpm range. Going to lean it out a bit down bottom (Try 6% down low and bump it up to 14% for 4K-6.4K range.

This tool is a blast, I just wish I had the wideband in the car and synched up to it! :)

ps - SOTP feels better with the 93CAI tune though, even part throttle etc feels different than the 91CAI tune...

Ok here's the final outcome... :D
1K-3.8K - 6% rich
4-5K - 16% rich
5-7K - 14% rich

Fan settings (185 stat) is 193 degrees on HS and 186.9 low speed

That gives me minimal KR (0.5-1.0 degrees) from 4-5K with the car fully up to temp and heatsoaked...Car pulls like a train :)

Cheers,
Chris
