Which tune for 89 octance

Post by dmac999 »

I use 89 in my 2015 Ram 5.7L because that's what it suggests from the factory. I'm just wondering when I tune the truck should I use the 87 or 91 tune. Or should I just use the 91 tune and start running 91?

if you are after power, use the best fuel possible, otherwise you can run 87 with the 87 tune.

I want to at least run 89 because that's what they recommend so I guess I'll start running 91 with the 91 tune. Unless it won't hurt to run 89 with the 87 or 91 tune??

there sis no good reason not to run 87 with the 87 tune.

except that the OWNER'S MANUAL suggests running 89!! to the OP, in my opinion, if it was acceptable to run 87 it would note that in the owner's manual. i see 2 options for you. run the 87 tune and continue using 89, or switch to 91 and run the 91 tune!

except that we have extensively tested and developed tunes that make more power on 87 then stock on 89....not to mention, not everyone has access to 89, and the stock cal is more than safe enough for 87 or worse :)

Mike, just to clarify, my wife has a 2014 RAM Laramie 5.7L with 8-spd 3.21 rear axle. If I purchase another intune-DCX for her truck I can load the 87 octane tune, run 87 octane and it will produce as much or more power than the factory tune?
