2006 Mustang GT auto - U7140 r.35 - JLT Cold Air Intake

Post by rpettit »

I am having issues in both "JLT Performance" and "JLT Firm Shift" modes. When shifting up through the gears, there is hesitation / lag when the next gear kicks in. Instead of having a firm shift, I actually come forward in my seat due to the hesitation. If I throw the throttle down to the floor it actually works out OK. However, anything less than full gas and there is a bad lag.

I spoke with a tech support guy on the phone the other day, and he suggested to check the revs per mile setting. I did, and it was off. I corrected it, but the problem is the same.

Also, my engine light used to come on occassionally in JLT firm shift mode. The trouble code was for the fuel/air ratio being too lean. Could this be my issue? I read this quote in another post (for an '06 Impala) which made me think this could be the problem (but I don't know):

"Install the performance tune of your choice, then do a couple logs and see where your ltft is at and then we can go from there. I know on mine, the CAI I put in made me lean, so I saw + ltft at normal cruise and had to make adjustments accordingly."

I am running 93 octane gas on a 91 octane tune (the JLT tunes default at 91). I don't think this is the cause of my problem, but if I could get a tune for 93 octane with the JLT cold air, that would be a bonus. Thanks in advance for your input.

I haven't seen this problem on the newest revision. Have you tried updating to 8r36 to see if the problem persists?

Thanks

I am running revision 35 which has the new OEM tunes for different cold air intake products.
Revision 36 states "internal update, no tune or parameter changes." This leads me to believe that updating to r.36 will have no impact on my performance issue. I don't currenlty have link cable to update my tuner. If you really think this is the answer to my problems, I will go buy one though. Please advise.

OK, I spent 30 bucks and an hour updating the Predator to rev. 36 from rev. 35 with my buddy's laptop. The problem is exactly the same. Both modes (JLT Performance and JLT Firm Shift) have the same issue. When shifting up through the gears, there is significant hesitation before kicking into gear. Again, I adjusted the revs per mile for my tire size. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. It's starting to get a little frustrating. Thanks in advance.

OK, email me a copy of your original backup file and I'll have a tune done to address it.
Do you know if the problem goes away if you do not adjust the revs per mile?
Let me know.

Mike,

I just emailed you my original backup file. The hesitation problem during shifts is the same regardless of whether or not I correct the revs per mile to 740 (235/50-18 tires). Could you please also optimize the tune you send me for 93 octane gas? Thanks again.

OK Ryan...I talked with our Ford tuner.
He has asked me to get a copy of the last tune written to the PCM so he can check the way the tune is being written to the car.
Do this the same as saving the original backup but instead of 'export original backup', choose 'export custom tune'.
Please email me this file so we can get you squared away.

Mike,

I just emailed you a copy of the last tune written (JLTFirmShift). Please let me know when the new tune is ready.

I installed the custom tune. Now it is shifting more firmly at lower RPMs (around 4000), but the overall performance (especially low end torque) is noticeably worse. I went ahead and re-installed the JLT Firm Shift tune, as it still performs better overall. Again, my only issue with the standard JLT tunes is the hesitation in shifts in the 4000 RPM range. The hesitation is enough to pull me forward in my seat. Any ideas on modifying the settings?

I have recently installed the CnL CAI Street Kit and selected the CnL firm shift with 93 octane tune. I am using 92 grade octane. I am now also experiencing the same upshift lag problem. Previously before the CnL CAI install I was running the Performance 93 octane tune without any issues. Was this issue ever resolved with the 06 GT / U7140?

jtkelly,

Unfortunately for me, the lag problem has not been resolved by any Predator updates or settings adjustments recommended by Diablosport. My Mustang is running a lot quicker with the Predator, but the upshift lag issue around the 4k rpm range is very annoying. Any help with this issue would be much appreciated.

I received an email notifying that someone had replied to my last post, but I don't see anything. Can someone help me with the lag issues I'm having with shifts in the 3500 - 5500 RPM range?? When I throw down enough throttle to redline, it shifts firmly. When I'm accelerating slowly (not fun for a Mustang owner!) everything is OK. Anything between grandma driving and wide open throttle though, and the shift lag is substantial. Again, any input from anyone who may have answers on this issue is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan Pettit
