predator 5.3l vs stock 6.0l

Post by travclem »

I have a 2006 crewcab z-71 with the 5.3l and a diablosport predator. I am running the performance tune with the firs two tm's turned off. My buddy drives a 2002 4x4 ext. cab 2500hd with the 6.0l and other than his dual exhaust he is bone stock. we decided to race last night i blew off the line and i had him beat for the firt 1/4 mile by a length  but when i hit 4th gear i lost all acceleration and he flew passed me. I am new to this but I thought my truck with a predator would do a little better than his stock pickup even though he's 0.7l bigger. I talked crap to him about how i would blow him out of the water but then after the race i was kind of embarrassed  any ideas... or is this normal... any other mods I should consider?

I am thinking about a Volant... are they worth the money or are ther ones that are just as good for cheaper.

I have the 5.3L with the Diablo runing the Volant with cold air ram. I couldn't tell much of a difference with the Volant before the Diablo 93 tune. The Volant, combined with the Magnaflows, and the Diablo seem to fit my needs nicely. I want to play some with the TM and other settings, but need a bit more time on weekends.

If I had to do it again, I would probably pass on the ram air tube - it's just a piece of plastic that doesn't even seem to be located in the right place to have a ram effect.

what rear end does your Z have cause that 6.0L is going to have the 4:10
i would think you only have a 3:7.3

also next time u race him dont let it shift 4th gear mabe put it in 3 instead of 4

hhhmmmm.. 4- door z-71 with 5.3.... 295 hp????
2500 hd.....ext cab.....6.0 ........lq4.... 345 hp????

how did he beat you? get yourself some real mods and blow his ass away. you lack gears and hp to beat his truck. air intake = maybe 6-10 rwhp. that doesnt make up the 50 hp you are lacking my friend.

if the predator was bad ass enough to make up 50 hp and taller gears, i would buy three of them!!!

Hey man I'm sorry I'm new to this whole thing, there is no reason to be rude and sarcastic I didn't know. I was under the impression that the only 6.0l with 345hp was the VortecMax which his is not. It was just an honest question. I am a broke college student and don't have the luxury of buying everything I want for my truck, so you might take that into consideration before you are an ass to anyone else.

awwwwwww. i wasnt tryin to be a meany my friend.

i have been there before, <broke college kid> , i was trying to state the obvious. he has more motor, better gears, and a lighter truck.

the cheapest power for you will be nitrous. a complete kit is around $300...hook it up, flip the switch, and kill him. flip the switch off, and drive home like normal.

its really expensive to build these trucks, especially if you are broke! you could either spray it, or just try to pick on smaller trucks

I had a truck exactly like his buddy had a, 2002 2500 ext cab 4x4 6.0 and in 2002 the 6.0 V-8 only had 300 hp, not 345 hp. So as far as HP goes, not much difference between the 5.3 and 6.0, However, the 6.0 does have more torque. The 6.0 didn't get 345hp till the 2007 model. As stated before, his downfall is his higher gears in this Z-71! Get lower gears or keep the truck in 3rd and try again. Also intake does help, I had the predator on my 2004 5.3 with intake and exhaust and I was very impressed with the results. I know for a fact it would beat a stock 6.0, because I have owned and driven both of them......

either way, like i said, he had more power, more motor, better gears.
and i track test EVERY mod that i make, air intake does make a small difference, but not that much.

Oh I agree, his buddy had more power, better gears and more truck! I was just pointing out that mere HP wasn't the reason his buddy beat him. He does need more mods if he plans on beating him in the future.

Yeah, air intake alone doesn't make much difference, but with exhaust it definately helps out......I'm not saying my 2004 was the fastest, but it would run circles around my 2002 6.0........

i just decided spray was the best/cheapest power...if you stay conservative.

i was trying to keep him from wasting money on dumb shit...like i have! i wish someone would have told me all the performance stuff that really doesnt help.... god knows i have wasted some money!!

you were right about the power, so i figured i would copy that and post it... i thought that 6.0 had more, i keep reading the lq9 has 345, i guess that is a newer year model?

what do you drive now JDeere?
