Updater issues with MacBook Pro OS X El Capitan 10.11.3

Post by jbrutus5 »

I keep getting the java run time environment error. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.3.

After doing some research online, it seems like this is happening because "This is most commonly because an application requires the legacy Java 6 provided by Apple".

Can you please confirm what version of Java is being used on the Updater that comes with the I2010 Intune 2?

After speaking to Apple they recommended that "The app that is looking for Java 6 needs to be updated to look for and work with Java 8".

Do you have plan to update to Java 8 anytime soon? Java 6 is not even supported anymore by Oracle. So for a new customer like me, i am stuck going to an old crappy windows machine which barely works.

Your immediate assistance with this would be greatly appreciated and i hope this helps some other people as well.

Thank you

The application is built for Java 8 not Java 6. That's probably why you're having the problem. Java 6 was left on some machines (depending on how old your machine is) or something else installed java 6. The newer releases of the OSX don't have java installed by default but has a wrapper for anything that tries to use java to let the user know where to download it from.

If you install Java 8 from http://www.java.com you should be good to go.

It didn't work even after installing Java 8.

The is the message from the console on the Mac:

This is the first I've seen of this and I have not been able to duplicate that error here. I'll have to research this further. The app is definitely built for Java 8 and not Java 6.

Can you try and run the updater from the Linux folder? It's the same app just not wrapped to show up as a Mac app. Let me know if you get the same error.

Thanks

How do you load it? Just drag and drop in main folder?

OK. I updated it. It rebooted and went through the whole loading phase and successfully updated the file you sent. However the error message is still the same. Attached are print screen. You will notice that in the Updater folder, the Linux file is now marked as modified Jan 21, 2016; the Mac still shows Sep 19 2015 and the Windows shows one from Sep 18, 2015 and one from Jan 21, 2016. Is the problem because the Mac one didn't update with the file update?Thank you for still trying to figure this out.

OK. So right after the same error message, i decided to go to apple website again (https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572?locale=en_US) and click on the link which sent me to the Java website to download the latest version which i did and is Java 8 Update 73 which came out 1st week of February. (https://www.java.com/en/) Atter installing it i tried the updated again for Mac and it worked :-) and the intune asked to reboot and went to a bunch of group update from 1 to 5 such as Group_Update_1,_2, _3_4 & 5 and each one of them went to the phase of Preparing, In Progress & Verifying. After it reached 100% on the 5th one, it said "Updates have been installed, please press continue to reboot your i2. I pressed continue and it rebooted. Once i click on the updated for Mac again, it launches the program and automatically starts a progress bar and the bottom shows Group_Update.itfg, it shows copying files to device and right after i get an error message on the computer saying "I-2000 Update quit unexpectedly". I provided some screen shots. The Intune itself says updates have been installed and ask to reboot. Once i reboot and go back to the update, it starts downloading again. Intune then starts same Group update and then i get the error message again on computer about quitting unexpectedly but intone reboots and goes to main screen. Is this the way it's supposed to work? I think we are getting somewhere and it probably works now except for the error message which probably does not affect the update. It's not normal and is definitely a bug somewhere but seem like the intone can now be updated with the Mac. Let me know. Thank you.
