AFM/DOD is it just ON/OFF or can a speed be set?

Post by ridersfan »

There are some other tuners out there that can set the AFM to be off until a set speed... I've never read anything about an i2 being able to do this and assumed it's just ON/OFF (I haven't purchased a tuner of any breed yet, but want it to ba an i2)
Can anyone lend some insight into this? Is it just ON/OFF or can it be set for a particular speed?

Thanks!

no, there is no speed setting for it.. it's either on or off..

I always disable the AFM/DOD in my custom tuning. it helps with better throttle response... disabling it also stops an oil burning issue that it causes every time it switches modes, which was even acknowledged by GM in a technical service bulletin... as well as failed lifters due to the afm/dod operation.. plus, a lot of people actually end up getting a little better mileage with it off, once the tune is done and things are dialed in... AFM only helps you if you do a LOT of highway driving, all the time... other than that, like city or around town, nah it doesn't help with anything...

Ditto on that Lew. Throttle response is better and mileage increased. That AFM is bad news seen a lot of late model GM products burning oil early in their life, it is just plain garbage to install this kind of technology that has so little benefit. :drivingbad:

Thank you for your input. Just ordered an i2030 from my local distributor and should receive it Monday. Will play around with it myself for a couple months and then decide if I'd like a custom tune from you Lew. By then I should have a CAI on it or at least a higher flow k&n filter (already have cat-back and want this drone gone for in town driving)
