Unlock my i2010, but I've sold the vehicle?

Hi,

I have a problem. I had a Ram 1500 Hemi 2013 and an i2010 with custom tunes on it that I used in my Ram.

Now I've sold the Ram and the buyer didn't want me to reset it back to "factory tune/setting" so I didn't. What I hadn't realize was that now the i2010 is "married" to that vehicle. I sold this i2010 to another guy, not knowing I sold a "locked" i2010.

The issue is, I can't get a hold of the new car owner anymore - the vehicle is resold apparently and the guy that bought my i2010 can't use that with his vehicle.

Now I want to do right by the guy that bought my "married" i2010 - and he really wants to keep it - so how do I go about this? Since I'm the original owner of both the Ram and the i2010, isn't there any other way I could get any help, than paying to have it unlocked?

Worst case is I have to buy it back from the guy that bought it from me - and then simply throw i out. I have no use for it anymore and the cost for unlocking it just to sell it again is just no good business.. I know I should have been better informed, but I'm swedish, and I didn't quite get all the info that came with the i2010, into my thick head at that time. And yes, that's my fault.

Any thoughts or ideas here before I offer the guy that bought it, that I buy it back?

well, it can be unlocked or they can purchase an additional license for the device to tune another vehicle with it.

How can it be unlocked? How do I go about and get that done?

you can callthe number on our site to pay for the unlock service or add the license.

So it doesn't matter that I bought this i2010 new and I still got the reciept?

Oooh.... No response. That does not sit well with me. @Johnny_B did anyone at Diablo Sport ever help you to rectify this situation?
I was never made aware that this unit would be locked to a single vehicle and I must say that I am very unimpressed about it.
I don't feel that the units should be locked at all and though I understand the business reasons to lock it, charging anything more than a small service fee (to cover time) is unfair and only serves to breed competition.
If DS is looking for a way to encourage competitors, they couldn't find a better way.

It makes sense if you think about it..
If someone buys a tuner.. they could easily charge a few dollars more than the service fee to unlock your device and then no one would actually need to buy a tuner themselves.. just find the local guy selling the tunes lol... Diablo would then be out of business.

Just as I said in my previous post;
Form a business perspective I understand why they do it.
But
There are other ways that would not leave people in similar situations like the OP upset.
As an example;
Have customers register their unit and allow them to pay a reasonable service charge to unlock the device they registered.
You would know if someone was abusing the service because the device is registered to the user. At some point the customer would be calling to unlock their device again and DS would be able to see that that customer has had that unit unlocked X number of times. Once or twice or perhaps even three times would be perfectly reasonable. Ten times, perhaps not.
Either their approach is nearsighted and not well thought out or (and far more likely) it's a cash grab.

In situations like this, for good sakes... Do the guy a solid and just unlock the damn thing.


I purchased a i2 only a week ago. I tuned my truck and a couple evenings ago someone broke into my truck and they stole it. Along with a few other things.
Now I have the modified tune in it and I am 60k still to go on my warranty. I don't want to bring it to the dealership till I find some way to get a stock/manufacturer tune on it.
The unit costs over $600 where I am and though I'd like to have another one, spending another $600+ for a total over $1200 is seriously not cool and I just can't bring myself to do it.
I found a guy locally who has a used t1000 that he's willing to sell me much cheaper.
I emailed and called DS to ask them about the charge to unlock it if I purchase this guys used one but I have yet to hear back.
The way I understand it though, I just spent over $600 and I am going to have to pay them additional money to either purchase another or a new license for this used one AND, when whomever buys my stolen one from the local crank dealer wants to use that one, DS is going to be all to happy to unlock that one for the guy. At a fee of course.
Ya... If I get gouged for this, I won't be impressed.
