New Member Fan Control Question.

Post by stealthGXP »

New to tuning but cautiously excited.. I have an 07 Grand Prix GXP (5.3). I just tuned out the DOD/AFM and noticed car running at higher temps. Not at any danger level but after doing research would like to adjust fan control to achieve lower temps. So, I attempted to adjust fans to 192 at about 50% and now they don't seem to kick on at all as they used to when reading was at half gauge. So, my question is, do I need to switch to a lower temp t-stat? Am I wasting my time trying to adjust fan control with the stock t-stat? Thanks for any assistance!!

a cooler stat will help for sure, also, we already modify the fan settings to come on sooner with the preloaded tunes.

Great thanks. So, until I get a lower stat, I should set the fan control back to where it was, or set to previous tune?

See my thread about setting fan settings, the percentages are largely useless for older vehicles, only the newest use PWM to control the fan speed continuously. I still need to run tests to see which percentages correspond to the low and high fan speeds (and for a few model years, a medium setting). I saw 95% for 235 F so I've set all of my temps starting at 214 F to 95% for towing.

tech... I went back and read through your posts about the fan temps. That was exactly what I was hoping to learn about the tuner!! Thanks for all of your info, I now have a good idea of hot to adjust the settings to achieve cooler temps!! Thanks again!!

Glad to help. I've been insanely busy the last 3 months so hopefully I'll get some down time next month so I can run some tests. I need to wire up some indicator lights to the relays so I can tell when the low and high fan settings have been activated by the computer, then start modifying the fan settings.

you can not change the temps at which the fans run at.. you can only change the amount of power that they run at, at preset temps.. starting at 192* and up...

for example, if you set the fan power at 192* to be running at 50%, then the fans will run at 50% power for 192* and also anything lower, even though you can't directly set it for anything lower..
