Is it worth the $$$

Post by RO519 »

I drive a 2011 5.3L Silverado 1500 with a leveling kit, 275's and 20's. I drag a bass boat fairly regularly and am looking for a little more power and better mileage when not towing.

The trouble I am having is justifying spending the money on a Diablo intune after some research online. Is it worth it? Will I see a noticeable gain in performance dragging a 20' bassboat around Texas?

Disclaimer: I am not a gear head by any means, I leave that to my father-in-law.

I've pulled my 6000 pound camper 8500 miles all over the US using the 87 and Diablo tunes. For several reasons I've settled on the 87 tune using 87 octane for daily driving (got much better mpg than the mpg tune) and the 87 tune using high octane while towing (slightly better mpg and no need to worry about no high-octane gas in the Rockies). At the higher altitudes the extra power from the Diablo tune doesn't matter with a naturally-aspirated engine since the limiting factor is the oxygen available. I found the 87 tune with high octane was nearly the same (for me) at the lower altitudes.
