Prospective Diablo Purchase Question

Post by dinokath »

Hi all,

I just bough a used 2006 Mustang V6, Automatic, BONE STOCK and am thinking seriously about getting a Diablo. I am not a car dummy by any means, but I have most of my experience in turbo powered diesel and rotary powered engines. I am looking at perhaps an exhaust upgrade and a CAI, but not too much more.

I have a couple questions that I hope can be answered:

- My primary reasoning for purchasing the Diablo is for the MPG increase, which from what I have read is about 20-30 miles per tank. My thought process (and how I can justify the expense in my brain) is that the Diablo will pay for itself over time. Of course the extra HP is a nice bonus too! Is this a truly reasonable expectation for a boost in mileage? If anyone who has seen MPG increases could post a quick note, I would appreciate it.

- How important is it REALLY to get a CAI? I know it provides better air flow and that translates to more HP (7-10 from my readings), but will it increase your MPG as well? It seems somewhat logical but anyone who has some insight would be appreciated.

- Same question on exhaust. What kind of performance/MPG gain can be seen with an upgrade in exhaust (leaving the stock exhaust manifold in place, basically putting a GT look on the back end with the dual pipes)?

- If you are looking for a basic 'tune' to get more MPG, is the 87 octane tune what you are looking to do or do you need to get more into the custom tuning? Is there a 'MPG Increase' custom tune available?

Thanks in advance for the information!

The DiabloSport Predator with the 93 octane tune installed will yield an average of 1-2MPG on the highway. In the Predator for the v6 we offer tunes for both the Steeda and C&L CAIs, and these will yield about the same MPG results with a little better performance. Exhaust will not do much to affect your mpg but will add a few hp and a nice rumble.

Thanks Christy.

Just so I am clear, I will see a gain in MPG with 93 octane tune AND 93 octane gasoline? What is the danger to the vehicle if you run a 93 octane TUNE and 87 octane GASOLINE?

Will a combination of a CAI AND the Predator yield even more MPG? Thanks for the information!

93 tune with 87 gas, maybe detonate your spark plugs and need a rebuild. Worst case scenario. But it's a bad idea. You want to match the tune to the gas your using. You would need to retard the timing in the 93 tune to use it with 87 gas. (Right, need to retard it?) They mentioned the CAI will give the same MPG as stock, but more power.

Thanks Talerno.

Do you know if 87 octane with the Diablo 87 octane tune will yield better MPG?

I have a 06 v6 mustang and i bought the predator and it helps gas mileage a little but you would need to use the 93 tune if your looking for hp numbers I did a full tune on mine just with exhaust and cold air intake and i got an extra 30 hp so it is worth the money.

You may not see any mpg increase with the 87 tune.
