Tune for towing

Post by waltheraustin »

What should i do to optimize towing? I have the 87 tune in now but I've heard to actually take that tune out due to potential issues when towing heavy loads. What are the recommendations for towing with the I2?

Thanks!

the tune is fine for towing...

make sure you installed the tune from the Tune Vehicle - ADVANCED MODE menu though, so it's actually the 87 tune..

there's a bug in the easy mode menu, where if you select the 87 octane tune, it actually installs the 91/93 octane tune...

so, if you're only using 87/89 octane gas, then you want to go to Tune Vehicle - Advanced Mode - and select/install the 87 Octane Tune from there..

then You'd just use the tow/haul button on the dash like you normally would. That just tells the transmission to use different shifting settings, that's all it does. The engine tune does not change at all, the engine tune stays the same no matter what mode you're in.

so to get the ring and pinion and tire selections in, i would've have to use the advanced menu, correct? i just can't recall if i had to go into advanced or not but I'm fairly certain i would've had to for those advanced selections. Is there anything else i can do with the intune to help with towing?

yes.. have to go to Advanced Mode.. select the tune you want to install.. select to Modify the tune.. change the gear ratio/tire size, and install the tune.

a custom tune improves everything bud.. like I said above, there's nothing done differently for towing.. You'd just use the tow/haul button on the dash like you normally would. That just tells the transmission to use different shifting settings, that's all it does. The engine tune does not change at all, the engine tune stays the same no matter what mode you're in.

so yes, a custom tune will improve both normal regular driving, and also when you are towing.

right on man, thanks! I thought i read that leaving torque mgmt off when towing which i guess is done in your tune and the canned tunes could mess something up. Is that BS?

So should all 87/89 octane tunes be done through the advanced mode.?

Interesting. I just registered my unit Thursday or Friday and it did not update. Been driving on the canned tune for a week.
