AFM and LTFT's

Post by Stevens07 »

I was doing a little test last night. My LTFT's seem to be all over the map, it wasn't real consistent that I could see. My AFM kicked on and off several times during the 15 minute trial run. Should I program the AFM off, then try again?

I was in the long term gas test instead of the short. Is one better than the other for checking? I was also monitoring KR, and it was at Zero under full throttle as well as cruise. I guess thats a good thing right?

Just trying to figure out which is best. Please don't just pass me to the other LTFT thread... I've read that thing a dozen times.

Any advice would be appreciated.

i usually try and get my LTFT data ata round 2200 rpm in 3rd gear, just set it in cruise on the interstate, and get in the slow lane...

and i would DEFINATELY turn that DOD stuff off, there isnt a good way to get consistent data with that shifting your engine from 4 to 8 all the time.

and yes, 0 KR at WOT is what your are shooting for after any adjustment, but that mainly has to do with knock retard due to timing.... whether you have advanced it, or do not have the octane to support the timing you are already running.....

Ok, Do you know if the AFM will kick on in 3rd? I haven't tried it to know otherwise. I've ran a few 500 mile tests and achieve a solid 1.5 mpg better with it turned on over the entire coarse of the trip. I was pretty consistent for both trips so I could get a solid idea if it really worked or not.

If so, I'll give it another try and see what the results are.
Thanks

I know on the cars with the DOD/AFM, it has to be in D for it to work... if you're in 1, 2, or 3, the DOD/AFM should not kick in..

i honestly dont know that much about AFM or DOD.... but i thought it wasnt supposed to come on in drive ( 3rd )

i would try it and see, but i always test mine in 3rd to get the optimal rpm...

I have the same vehicle as you and Im curious as to what kind of gas mileage you are getting with the DoD on and off. im getting 13.0 miles per gallon with that annoying DoD ON. (just ordered my predator 5 minutes ago!)

On my trip, I was getting 17.3 to 17.5mpg with the AFM turned on, 87 tune. Another trip, I got 16.2 to 16.6 mpg with the AFM off. I also did the same trip with 93 octane, and saw no difference in mileage. Consistant 17.5mpg

I hope to see better mileage once the winter blend of fuel goes away.

I saw the same results intown mileage. 13 mpg on... 12 off.

I will say this, you'll love what it does for you performance wise. For me, it was a big difference even not having the TM controls previous model diablos have. Hopefully the TM controls will come out soon.

Hey Steven,

My understanding is that the Long Term Fuel Trims wil be all over the place.

Looking at my logs (which are supposed to be dialed in) the LTFTs are all over the place as well. However the Average of those is in line with where they should be.

From what I have read this is an averages kind of thing. Having zero KR is a really good thing too.

You should see what happens in the logs when KR actually does hit.. You can see the retard very easily.. I had some at WOT when I installed the AEM Brute Force. I had to change my PE by 3% so that I no longer see KR.

Hope that helps..

On a side note...

I did not see the AFM engage at highway speeds in 3rd gear.

Not sure if it was the RPM level or not.

I did some more monitoring/logging data today on the way home from work. I was running about 62mph on cruise, throttle position was 34% and the Bank 1 LTFT was 2.34 and the Bank 2 LTFT was 3.91 average in 3rd gear.
Why are the 2 banks almost 2 points different?.. and would I adjust them -4%.

And how do I do that, Currently I have the 87 tune in.. how do I keep that loaded, then modify the LTFT's
Thanks

Your Throttle % seems a little high. You want it about 20%, that might be why your seeming the trims adding that much fuel. I would try it again witha 20% throttle input and then post your findings.
And when you do make your adjustment all you have to do is hook up the Pred and go to the section that says Modify Tune, it will only modify the tune you currently have installed in the car/truck.

There's like 4-5 throttle position readers.. which is the best? I set the cruise control, so How do I get the throttle down to 20%... drive at a speed where I see 20%?

Thanks
