Will the DS downloader work on a Mac

Just as the title says.

All I can find is old and outdated information via Google search so here I am basically asking for new information. Can the software that comes with the trinity now be used on a Mac? I'm seriously starting to finally lose my patience with windows-based computers and ready to make the switch to a Mac but I want to know if I can still update my Trinity and still be able to do all the other stuff from before on a Mac like I can on my PC. Thanks.

Actually, I guess really all that's important is just being able to use a Mac to update my trinity. Im not into all that fancy schmancy, data-logging and transferring stuff for making custom tunes and what not so, all I really wanna continue being able to do is just keep the trinity updated, that's it, nothing more.

Since we're on the subject tho, if it turns out a new Mac won't be compatible at all, does the trinity need to be updated all the time? What's the point of the updates? Are they really necessary, even for a complete amateur such as myself who just relies on the canned tunes?
