inTune i3 for Chrysler Platinum coupla weird issues

Post by 2005300c »

I picked up a 2005 300c a couple weeks ago and decided that I wanted the ability to turn the cooling fans on earlier to go along with a 180* stat. Got the tuner yesterday (inTune i3 Platinum for Chrysler) and proceed to tune the car. After the usual 'your car is not supported', I was able to get it to where it stated the calibration needed to be updated. This is where the 'weird' started.

1) The calibration update failed, causing the tuner to prompt me to restore a backup. This appears to have been successful.

2) Installed the 91 octane tune. I modified the fan temperatures to low speed on at 190, medium speed at 195, high speed at 200. I also disabled MDS. Everything else was left alone within the tune.

3) Installed the calibration 2 TCM tune. Calibration 1 did not work (would only upshift at redline). I did not change shift points, but I did select to increase line pressure.

Took the car for a test drive and it appeared to run great. Honestly didn't notice anything different with overall performance, but did notice much better transmission manners and a firmer shift. The fans work exactly as I'd hoped.

I didn't notice the weird issues until I left for my hitch (work on a drilling rig) that evening. My cruise control was non-functional and from 1400-1600 RPM's, the alternator/battery voltage was varying wildly from 13.9 to 14.9, causing the lights to flicker. The front windows auto-up function has also stopped working. I found a forum post elsewhere that mentioned the '05 PCM's can exhibit weird behavior after an initial tune (including non-functional cruise) and that the common solution was to pull the negative battery cable (or fuse 11) and clear the PCM.

I cleared the PCM at the motel and waited 'till this morning to test it out. Cruise is now functional, but the ESP/BAS light came on, and windows auto-up is still MIA. Pulled off the road, shut the car off, then restarted. ESP/BAS light is out. However, I still have the varying battery/alternator voltage from 1400-1600 RPM's, causing the headlights to flicker (and still no auto-up windows).

I haven't yet tried putting the stock tune back in the car, as I wanted to see if anyone else has had issues like this and found a solution.

I appreciate any insight!

Ok, so I found out that the ESP\BAS light was likely caused by the steering angle sensor needing recalibration after pulling the negative battery cable. This was also the cause of the auto-up feature going MIA. Two problems solved that were not caused by the tuner.

So I'm left with the alternator/battery voltage jumping from 13.9 to 14.9 between 1400-1600 RPM's.

I have never seen voltage fluctuate like that, especially due to anything related to a tune.

Ya, I don't know what to make of it. Definitely didn't do this before the tune as it's really noticeable during my drives to/from the rig in the dark. And with it being at such a specific RPM range, I'm stumped.
