ethanol blended gas

Post by tommyd »

I have a 2007 charger SRT8 and just purchased the U7135.
Has anyone tried the predator (91 or 93 CAI tune) using 92 octane ethanol blended gas?
Up here in Canada the highest octane gas I can get is 92 octane which is a blend of 10% ethanol and 90% gas.

I use the 10% blend here in Florida but its 93. I had to add about 5% fuel across the board and take away 1* of timing to get rid of the knock retard.

tommyd, where in canada are you at? Sunoco Sells 94 octane that is 10% ethanol but you can run the 93CAI... you just need to log it for a whilel to make sure you are not getting any knock. Shell sells 91 octance with 0% Ethanol and it's fantastic for running the 91CAI tune... I have not seen any knock with this setup. Petro Canada's 91 is hit and miss... one tank I had no knock retard and another tank I had up to 5% knock retard at WOT and 0% the rest of the time. You should be just fine using 91CAI with 92 octane +Ethonol.... if you have the opportunity to record some logs, that would be the best!

I live in Alberta. No Sunoco.
Once I get the tune in the charger I will try the Shell 91 for a baseline then I think I will try the Mohawk 92 Octane with a 91 and then 93 tune and log to see if I get any LT Knock.

Where is Alberta lol

In Calgary we get the Mohawk 94 Oct. Super Premium. Sure Edmonton gets it as well. I believe you can go on their website and find locations where it is available.

I can no longer afford Sunoco 94... might have to return to stock tune and sell the Predator for gas money

Edmonton has the 94 octane at a few stations actually. Here is a link to the Husky map that shows all the available locations for 94.

I run only this 94 stuff in my car now too, I still need a CMR tune but have to wait to get home again because I forgot to download my base file first. kmills and I shared the same issues as far as KR goes.

I use BP,MOBIL,SHELL and they all use 10% ethanol here in CHICAGO so is it safe to say i need to add fuel and take timing away aswell? Or there is no way of knowing til i get a WIDEBAND ? Sorry to threadjack but it's almost the same topic and imo pointless to start another thread.

log your Knock Retard, you shouldn't need a wideband unless you have some significant mods. If you are getting 5%+ knock retard then you can add fuel and remove timing to get it to come down.

I went through this and ended up using SHell V power 91 and the 91 octane tune. The Shell V power gas has NO ethonal.

My KR wasn't too bad on the 93 Oct tune using 94 Oct Mohawk gas. Was 0 until just around/after shift point at which point it was between 1-3 deg. I got a 94 Oct. e-mail CMR tune from Doug @ Bamachips and it really woke the car up! 0 KR across the board. The altitude here in Calgary help with cylinder pressures and KR, but does cut down on the power compared to guys running closer to sea level

kewl beans kmills. Sounds like you're gonna have some fun this summer... if it ever arrives in Calgary, that is. I feel for you guys out west.... after the worst winter in 30 years we have been enjoying some pretty nice weather in Southern Ontario :)

BTW... I hear that a little KR is normal at WOT near shift points so it sounds like you're running fine.

yeah, car feels a ton better with the CMR tune. I've had the car out every chance I get...but there hasn't been too many chances this spring with the weather we've been having lol

Now I'm just waiting for ProCharger to get their SRT kit together
