Speedo Issues

Post by Dawgman »

Need some help on this one. My speedo starting acting up about a week ago. 50 mph while in the driveway, and when I'm going around 40 the speedo shows 90, etc. Today, I restored original backup, drove it around the block, and reinstalled 100hp tune. Now it seems to be fine.

I wonder what would cause this?

The tuner should have no effect on this. Speedo information is gathered by the abs module and is sent over the network to the cluster for the speedo read out. What the tuner flashes does not alter this info. The only tire information stored in the pcm and tcm is for transmission shifting.

It's happening again.......speedo only acts up on 100, or 65 hp setting. I just went back to the original back-up, and the speedo works fine. Anyone else experience this....any advise?

You know, I suspect your ABS/Speedo sensor that is mounted to the top of the rear axle third member. I had goofy speedo issues and that was the problem. New sensor fixed every thing.
You can try cleaning the thing by taking it out and cleaning all the metal shavings on the pickup.
The sensor works by counting the teeth in the ring gear which is converted to rear tire revolutions per mile. A little math then converts that into a signal to send to the speedo.
