Had to pack it away

Post by fordomatic69 »

Gas prices are so high here, I had to restore the stock tune and go back to 89 Octane ($1.30/Litre for 89). Packed my predator in the aluminum case I bought and customized and put her in the shop for now

Not much jabber going on in here so I thought I would break the silence with my rant.

Load tune, pull a bunch of timing, at least it will 'feel' alot better than stock....

How much timing do you suggest I pull and still keep stock fuel mileage and no knock?

EXACTLY!! At least you will still have the torque management reduced and better shift points with the tune installed with the timing down. It will be faster than the stock tune and you can still run the 89 octane.

EXCELLENT Smithers! Thanks for the info, I will try it out tonight. I really like the reduced torque management and increased shift points. If only gas prices would fo down for cryin' out loud!!!

Did you take the tune out because you need to run 87octane or because it was consuming too much fuel?

Just the cost of 91 and 93 is through the roof here in Canada. I won't run less than 89 no matter what.... even if that means having to sell one of my motorcycles to pay for gas

I loaded the 91CAI with raised shift points and limits, then I removed 5* of timing at all ranges and I have not seen any KR yet running on 89 octane thus far. I have been running 89 for 2 tank fulls but just reloaded the tune with reduced timing tonight and I must say, she is still running quite well.... love the raised shift points :)

Thanks Guys

Ok, you might get away with lowering the timing less than 5 deg, i would try 2 or 3.

Thanks Johan, I will try and adjust it this weekend (Installing my new vented rotors, ceramic pads and painting the calipers on Saturday :) )

Had to revert back to the stock myself. Wish I would have seen this post sooner. BTW I had already filled the tank with 87  . Would it still be safe to load the 91 tune and reduce the timing by -5* ??? thanks for your help

87? Are you mad man? j/k. I would expect that reducing timing 5-7* might be safe at 87 octane. You should log ST and LT Knock to be sure and if all is well, run it until you can re-fill with 89.
