Issues with 7r19dZ update to U7170

Guys, I know you don't want to hear it, but, there is.
First off, i do want to thank Phil with his patience helping me get this downloaded and reprogrammed the other day, man do I need wireless internet, a laptop, or an ac-dc adapter.
To start with, 99 7.3 SD, 173k miles, stock turbo,4" turbo back exhaust, aem intake,Precision Billet convertor w/ shift kit and revalved. Egt probe is mounted in d.s. exh. manifold, per directions from AutoMeter.

I called in after trying 3 tunes and was happy with the 60 & 100 hp tunes, power was good, shifting good, egts no issues. 100 hp tune felt great for even daily driving.
85 hp tune was much better in regards to throttle control and shifting, but the egt's and boost were off the wall. Couldn't keep wastegate from banging open, and egt would skyrocket as soon as you wacked the throttle down, this is with an empty box.

And now the real stickler, towed my 4000 lb. boat to the lake yesterday to fish, and tow tune is running up temps to 1100-1200 degrees on small hills. (Rolling hills in North Dakota, nothing big) What gives with the high egts? 8r05 didn't act anything like this.

Tow tune shifted alright and power was ok, but can't use it for fear of burning a hole in a piston, I went back to stock tune for the 2 hr. trip home and that sucked for sure, but only saw temps of 6-900 deg.

If tow tune didn't have temp problem, I'd be thinking I'm good to go with the 60 and 100 hp tunes working well.

Please get back to me on this and could someone explain to me how the injection system and amount of fuel delivered affect egt's and boost, I can tune 2-strokes but not Power Strokes. :(

7r19dZ egt problem.

Well, what the hey, still no reply from DS?

Found another ???, Went down to local Radio Shack to buy 12v adapter and plug, your instructions say to buy tip # 273-1717, that tip doesn't even come close to fiting over one of the prongs in the plug, had to go back for tip # 273-1705. Got home and plugged ac adapter into Predator and didn't get any light up. Didn't have pc cable plugged in, is that a factor?

Would appreciate an answer soon, am leaving for work tomorrow for the week and can't mess with this problem there, but will be checking in.

The power supply should be 12v 1 amp, and it should power up on its own, no need for the serial cable to be plugged in.
The plug tip is 2.5x5.5 mm, center is positive.

1100-1200 is not that hot when reading in front of the Turbo.

Please tell me what the bootloader on the Predator says, and I will see if there is a new revision I can send you.

Thanks

Mikel-lol, found plug on TOP of predator, was trying to plug into center prong of OBD II plug. DUUUUH. Got it powered up with 12v adapter now, no more carrying computer out to truck again.

After 7r19dZ update my Predator is showing:

Ser.# 2004525
snapper-1064425532

More confusion here, saw a 9t02b revision for the U7170 over on the poor mileage thread by jermort.
Tried to download it but only got a corrupted Predator, finally got the 7r19dZ reloaded, and after many tries reached Phil who informed me that 9t02b was a fix for the PATS system problem like Excursionist had been having.
So why was it given out as an economy revision in that thread.???

Hey, Mikel, how bout an answer before the weekend if at all possible.

Thanks-Jay

Was not given specifically for mileage, just in an attempt to get them the latest crom with the latest tunes.
The PATS issue is a whole other deal, and is only related to 9r01.

Thanks for the reply Mike. Ran the 85 hp tune again, didn't let the temp and boost bother me so much this time, it sure blows black smoke, and egt doesn't want to cool down to 300 deg. like i usually let it before shutdown, badly overfueled?

Anyway, am hoping the weather breaks so I can try tow tune again, pulling camper and boat over to lake to catch some walleye.
:D

Thanks guys!!

Jay,

Looks like you have an older predator with smaller memory (just like me and dsquared). You probably noticed the upload froze at packet 8195 which left your predator corrupted. Your only recourse was to reload your old tune. Sounds like that went okay. Good luck.

jammer (jermort)

Hope to he!! this Predator isn't that old, just bought it last fall, course it may have been on the shelf for a long while.

Hey DS, tried the "Tow Tune" on 7r19dZ with camper and boat behind, was on cell phone with daughter not paying attention, pulling gradual hill @ 60 mph, looked down, HOLY HELL, 1400 deg., towed for 2 hrs to Lake on that tune, what a PITA. Had to let off going up hills or it would heat up fast.

What's the likelyhood of you guys standing behind a toasted 7.3 ?? Not much I'd bet.

Hey, feeling a little hostile here after towing home today in STOCK tune, let me know this week, need an update or give me back 8v05r or whatever it was, at least I could tow in that tune without fear of burning down.Am having bad feelings about your product as of right now.

Are we gonna see some help here?? :x

Can you confirm for me what bootloader you have (my guess is booting_pstroke73).
Post it up and I will send you the appropriate update for your tool.

Thanks
