2012 Ram 1500 no 6th gear?

Post by powgenman »

I updated my i3 asper instructions when I removed it from the packaging.
I uploaded the 87 octane tune, turned off the MDS and set the throttle boost
to 20%. I ran the truck for about a month, transmission seemed to up shift to quickly.
I figured that maybe it was just skipping gears at part throttle to enhance fuel economy.
I took a drive to Orlando from Daytona and noticed higher rpms at speed, approximately
2000 rpm at 70. used to run about 1600rpms. so I thought that maybe it wasn't shifting to 6th gear.
I returned to stock tune that weekend when I returned home. Shifts returned to normal except no 6th gear.
Rpms at 70 are still at about 2000. I changed the transmission filters and topped off with fluid, still 6th gear
is not there. Also if I manually try to down shift manually there is no change.
What should I do? I hope that there is not a problem from uploading the tune.
HELP PLEASE.

Thanks

No codes?
I have never seen or heard of this happening to be honest.

Nope, No codes. If I am correct the 2012 doesn't have a TCM the PCM controls the transmission with very little diagnostics.
I have access to the Dealer Connect software at work. the only stored code was drive side mirror heater open circuit.
I performed a transmission relearn procedure with no change.
I am really stumped, ideas :?: I am thinking about swapping out the shift solenoid pack. but it is a little expensive.

try a battery reset...disconnect, drain voltage, reconnect and see what you get.

Well, tried that battery reset and no change. :(
Any other thoughts? Ideas? I really don't want to take it to the dealer.
We only use factory parts at work and that works great. Engineered
buy the designers. never a problem. :-|

I am gonna take the truck to a performance transmission shop that we have in the area.
I talked to them over the phone just yesterday. The tech I talked with is very familiar with
this trans... and said he wanted to ohm-out the solenoid pack and check operating pressures.
He said that the tuner may have aggravated an already weak point in the solenoid pack, the
truck does have just shy of 100,000 miles on the clock. I will have to wait till after the first of
the year to make an appointment to have it looked at. I will post the findings here. 8)
