ST Knock Retard. CAI vs non-CAI.

Post by ZMagnum »

So I'm logging ST Knock Retard. I see it go up to 6 sometimes at WOT. Then on the same drive it only goes to 3 or 4. I bought Mobile 91 octane and I'm running the 91 octane tune. I have a high flow drop-in air filter. I'm wondering if I should switch to the 91 CAI tune or just add fuel to the 91 non-CAI tune. How much fuel does the 91 CAI tune add over the non-CAI? How much fuel should I add each time and check results?

Also, when in MDS mode I see ST Knock Retard jumping all around between 1 and 2 or 3 when cruising normally down the road. Is this normal?

Thanks.

Trying the the 9r04 93 CAI tune took care of my KR issue even though I run the stock airbox with a Mopar drop-in filter (thanks Johan).

My ST KR went from 5.5 with the Perf 93 tune to between 0.5 and 1.5 with the 93 CAI tune -- no other fuel or spark changes were made. My 5.7 has never pulled this hard before.

OK, I installed the 91 CAI tune. It already had my fan temps and other settings. I did the install on top of the old settings. I hope they are not adding to each other but replacing.

The ST knock retard is down to 2 or 3 and the ambient temp was 105 today. Nice. The car does seem to pull harder. Thanks for the help everyone.

Feel free to add a bit of fuel on top of the CAI tune to see if it helps get rid of some of the KR, and look into a catch can if you do not have one already.

Thanks

Thanks. I've got a catch can already. I will add fuel if needed as well. Thanks again.

Are you guys running a 185 thermostat or stocker? What are you setting your fans at? (I have just loaded the 91CAI tune on my car with the stock airbox. I also have HF cats and a 185 stat.

I'm running a 170 degree t-stat which actually opens at 176. My fans are set to turn on around 177 low speed fan at low MPH and at 185 high speed fan at low MPH. At high MPH I set them to turn on around 204 which means they won't turn on. The coolant temp shouldn't reach 204 when driving faster anyway. I don't think we have a medium speed setting on our cars so I just set that to the same as high.

Chris,

I am running the stock thermostat with the default fan settings in 9r04.......Low speed at 210, high speed at 219.
